That's interesting... it's actually really awesome in the few games that do this. Uncharted 2, FFX off the top of my head. Lots of games do it in a gameplay sense, though, where you have all your powers for the intro then you lose them, like God of War 2, Metroid series, and lots of RPGs.

FFVIII's intro is pretty "eh." Comes across as a little tryhard. Sorry to go against the grain!

Best intro cutscene? FF8, no contest.

But I do believe this topic is about best intro level, in which case FF8 is not worth mentioning.

FF7 is a good one, so is KH2. And Mario Galaxy, actually. When you land on that first flowery sphere with the Gateway music and run around it for the first time it's like a revelation.
