From: DigitalIncision | #048 I don't even think it needs to replace HW entirely. There WILL be bigger guys who WILL eventually be technically gifted. I'd love to have cruiserweight (think: Velasquez, JDS, Fedor, Jon Jones, Thiago Silva, etc) and also heavyweight (think: Carwin, Mir, Big Nog, etc) ... just devote a lot less main card space to heavyweight and stop paying them all so damn much when they're just not that good. The problem is that people like to watch big men. I think they can market the cruiserweight division well enough to make it a cash cow.
I think I worded things poorly. What I was trying to say is to basically make 230 the Cruiserweight Division, and then 231-to-infinity would be the new Super Heavyweight division (or you could just call it Heavyweight if you really want), and then make CW the heaviest weight class UFC uses, at least until the talent pool above 230 demands to be noticed.

Mir could have made it a couple years ago, but then he really hulked up to be "big enough" to fight Lesnar and Carwin. Now I don't think he can really go back at his age. Big Nog probably could, I just don't think he'll want to, for some reason. There are guys like Del Rosario, Browne, Gonzaga, Herman, Hunt, Johnson, Kongo, Mitrione, Nelson, Overeem and Rothwell that make up a decent division, plus some more outside help. It's certainly not balanced, but there's value there. Just, outside of a fight here and there, shouldn't be all over the main card.

hockey to me requires the most talent solely because the way you move your body is not the natural running.
Hockey and swimming to me require so much more talent. Basketball too. I know many will say the NFL, and I'd argue they might be the strongest people overall, but something can be said about the level of football talent needed when every year there are a few people who get drafted in the first round based solely on their combine numbers. I feel like other professional sports can see through the workout warriors who can't actually play the sport.

Baseball's an odd case, because it does take a rare talent to be able to play it well at a Major League level, and it's not something that can really be taught. Either you can hit or you can't, and if you can't (and you're not a pitcher) you are probably not gonna have a job unless you play ELITE defense.
It doesn't take a lot of athleticism to play (although that certainly helps), certainly a lot less athleticism than soccer or hockey or football or basketball, but it takes a lot of skill.

Out of all my friends/acquaintances who watch MMA, pretty much all of the people who wear tapout and affliction shirts a good portion love when dana white is yelling at people.
I think more people are starting to not like white's antics, but when he bought part of zuffa/was first named president of the UFC many people liked the choice BECAUSE of his loud outspoken personality.
People love controversy, and they want to be the person who first hears about it. Hence the reason why so many people like to be the guy who first makes the "osama is dead", or "whitney houston is dead" topics and facebook updates. Dana White says a lot of stupid ****, and people like to hear it first.

not saying some people cant be more comfortable skating than walking. Hell, you frequently read about how certain nhl players learned to skate before they learned to walk. But id imagine over 98% of people in this world didnt learn skating at such a young age, and to pick up on how to skate at speeds like an NHL player requires a lot of talent.

well if they want to be taken seriously as an organization (and be on network tv), he will have to stop.
As for "a big chunk who does like his antics", a perfect example is how a lot of mma fans loved his response to loretta hunt famous article in 2009. Eventually people who only make news via being loud fade away for the newer and louder person, and i think that might be starting to happen with white now.

DigitalIncision posted... Yeah but cruiserweight is needed, because the jump is from LHW (205 pounds) straight to heavyweight (265). Sure, the talent is there to overcome, like JDS being the champion now and Frankie Edgar being the champ at LW before that, but it will likely eventually be a problem. I'm thinking 225 or 230. And then sure, make the HW unlimited .. we don't have to worry about (more) bulbous guys in there because the UFC only signs who they want
well what i'm saying is, all i see is 'cruiserweight' being full of fat LHWs who don't want to cut weight. 205-265 is already so shallow that splitting it up even further would just dilute the field even more.

Do you realize the gap between 205 and 265? There are some tiny people fighting at HW. The gap is too big. It's to the point of being unfair. Jon Jones is going to have to move up soon. Phil Davis might, too. Cruiserweight is definitely needed .. in my opinion. We have ten pounds increments for the most part and then we have 60 pounds.

who are these monster 265lbers making it impossible for the 225-245lb guys to compete then? lesnar? carwin? bigfoot silva? HW has traditionally seen champions the size of fedor, couture, velazquez, nogueria, mir, dos santos, etc... at a weight where anyone can KO anyone with a single punch, and where talent is inversely correlated with size, i think that it's a plenty competitive division as is.

I said it's going to eventually be a problem. And again, like I said, there are guys fighting uncomfortably right now at 205. It's unfair, even if the bigger guys aren't winning. 60 pounds is a ridiculous gap.

I'm not sure that I can believe this. He said a reporter was being "****y" because she was one of those Perez Hilton types who just ****s on people in order to get a reaction. If you listen to his podcast he calls everyone a ****, probably towards men at least 10 times more often than women. He stopped using the word "***" over a year ago (he never used it to refer to gays) because one person told him that using that word can bring up a ton of bad feelings/memories for gays even if you didn't mean to use it in that way.
As for the comments.. I can understand why he'd say that. The rules of soccer are incredibly easy to understand and I've always found that it is more about speed, endurance and being able to play in a system than individual skill. If you have one player on the team who doesn't know where he needs to be on the field at any given moment, you're going to get scored on... a lot. It requires a ton of teamwork and coordination, but I find it's more about the team than any individual. It just sounds weird to call a sport the least talented when there are tons of supremely talented players in that sport. There are some incredible passers and there are people that can simply do crazy things with the ball in terms of control. But it's quite rare to see blowouts in soccer even if the two teams are unevenly matched, because if the team plays their system well, it's hard for anyone to score against them. I think it's just much harder for individuals to shine in soccer compared o a game like basketball or hockey where one player can often decide the outcome of a game.

I don't care who he said it to. I love Rogan. But it was a discussion about PR. I personally think people should say whatever the hell they want and sensitive people need to grow up - because one chooses to be offended. But again, it was about PR and the fact that he has been a PR nightmare at times. He'd be a bigger PR nightmare if the UFC were bigger. They're going to continue to grow, and eventually, Rogan will need to stop talking about dropping acid and waking up in the attic on his podcast, too.

From: ExThaNemesis | #086 Lionel Messi. Cristiano Ronaldo. Robin van Persie.
Again, I'm not saying there aren't players ho do this... and there is a reason that these people make as much money as they do. But I find that in hockey or basketball one or two players standing out on their team is the norm. In any sport played by millions of people superstars are going to emerge. Nobody is saying soccer players are untalented. I just find that soccer is much more of a team sport than the other major North American sports.

No, it's not the point. Rogan is expendable, and if push comes to shove with Fox, he'll be gone pretty easily. And of course, it's a helluva lot less of an issue than what Dana White says. My point is Rogan says a lot of things that a lot of people will find offensive. He does it less and less, and personally I find him to be one of the most underrated comedians out there. But my point still stands.
I'm going to have to disagree there, especially if the goal is to do it successfully. Sure, anyone can hop in a racecar and drive it around the track, but it takes a lot of skill to get the car in the right position to get the best possible speed/time while not running into 42 other drivers on the field.
