The 14 day trial, anyways. This is all thanks to whoever keeps reposting that awesome picture with statistics on that one corporation >_>

This time, I actually slightly know what I'm doing! I'm settling for a mix of mining, refining, and production of some kind of cheap nuclear ammo right now. Mining is incredibly easy with bookmarks, and having drones that mine along with you is slightly badass, even if my cargo size sucks right now. I'm not making too many credits, but I think the important thing right now is mastering all the basic skills out there. There's way too many to keep track of O__o

I've also found an application that gives updates on basically everything in game, from training times to the status of items I had on sale to how long it'll take my current manufacturing queue to finish, so unless I'm actually mining, I won't have to log in.

<_< more people should try to play imho

That's how I felt every time, but putting a little time into mining and learning how to play that one aspect of the game makes everything else start making sense. I had to read a couple guides, but there's a ton of them out there.

Nope, 14 days for free. The only really big thing you can't do is take contracts, which is basically long-term employment anyways. At the end of the 14 days your account goes inactive until you subscribe.

EVE is a game for sociopaths, except for the miners who are either bots or masochists.

Also, learn probing if you reaaaaaalllllllyyyyyy want to mine, Then you can find hidden asteroid belts and safely jetcan your ore so that you can cut down on your trips to and from the station.

Woo EVE

I almost want to be one of those bigshot guys who go 'lol noob here's a billion ISK' but I've only been playing for a few months myself and I don't have that kind of cash. Still, cool someone else here plays it!

And yes, EVE is for sociopaths and masochists. I'm a masochist *Goes back to shooting tiny rocks and mentally dreading my eventual destruction at the hand of a sociopath*

I definitely don't want to end up doing this, I just need a decent source of income and everything else seems to require tons of capital or tons of skills. Manufacturing or upgrading blueprints looks the best to me so far!

Oh and if anyone here actually wants to play, you can be given a 21 day trial code by a buddy, which is seven whole days better than the 14 day one you get by... not having a buddy.

What sort of path do you think you do want to take in EVE, if not mining? I like the setting and the act of accomplishing things I get from mining, but I'm too panicky to actually go beyond basic fighting missions. I'd explode in a PVP war situation, literally and mentally

I actually am really interested in large-scale corporation PvP too, but I figure it'll be a while before I can afford a ship that doesn't explode when another player looks at me. Even if it's just riding a cheap fodder ship along with them, stuff like starbase control seems badass.

I actually wouldn't mind getting into PvP with my combat trained alt (I'm a loser with a mining account and a fighting account) but I wouldn't even know where to begin. I lucked into a corp full of guys who have been playing for ten years and they give me insane prices on any minerals I bring in, but they all log in just once per week to update skills I guess so there's not much corp fighting to be had.

If you have 50k ISK, you can outfit a tackler. You stick a warp scrambler on a fast frigate, and then keep the target in place while other people kill it. The two most newbie-friendly corps are EVE University, open to everyone and thus has a long queue, and Goonwaffe, which is only open to SomethingAwful members but is pretty awesome (and universally hated because they play 'wrong' but keep winning).

Okay, I got a question: Currently, I'm mining Scordite from an extremely close asteroid field, refining it into Pyerite and Tritanium, setting up a huge queue for Nuclear S rounds (as in an hour or two of mining left me with a 16 hour long queue), selling the excess Tritanium since I get more Tritanium than Pyerite, and then just mining either Veldspar or Scordite and selling it by itself. I'm currently in Luse, which has no research labs, so I'm not researching. Should I go on the hunt for a better central location that has Scordite, manufacturing, and research labs, or should I just settle on not improve blueprints for now? I've read that labs generally have huge queues, so I'm guessing this might be hard to find... and they kinda look expensive. Plus, Luse has a security rating of 0.9, so other than labs, it's pretty perfect for where I'm at right now. It's just that I feel like I'm wasting output since I can mine so much faster than I can manufacture right now.

I just bought a Navitas and I'm fitting it with two Miner I's, two Expanded Cargohold I's, one miner droid, and... I have no idea what good rigs would be since I've never messed with them before, but there's three slots there. I also have two medium power slots and no idea what fits there either.

Your mid slots are for an afterburner and a survey scanner. If you ever go to 0.8-0.5, swap the mining drone for a combat drone. Rather than researching, buy researched blueprint copies off of contracts, at least until you're ready to put up a POS to do your own researching.

You might consider swapping over to EMP, Proton, or Phased Plasma rounds, since they are in higher demand. I can't really give you advice on location, since I don't remember Gallente space off of the top of my head and my account is currently inactive.

Also, train PE to at least IV as soon as possible if you're on the industrial side of things to reduce waste. And if you have a hauler (probably an Iteron series industrial for you, thought the Mammoth is my preference), haul the ammo to a mission hub for faster turnaround and better margins. Don't sell in trade hubs early on, and certainly not in whatever isolated mining system you're using.

Ah, I'd been holding off on getting PE since it's about 230k, but it looks like even an extra -15% waste is practically needed. Well, not like it's too hard to make that much money in this game, guess I'll work towards buying it now. I've got almost all my other production/mining related skills up to 3 right now.

Also, am I reading this right and $7 is all that's needed for the game and one month of time? Steam keeps telling me this but everywhere else I've seen it's more expensive >_>

Not sure how trials work, but when I buddy programed my alt, the free days left over added to the month I bought when I subscribed. Although Steam may be different, for some reason I imagine you'd need to make a new account if you bought off of steam so you might want to look into that.

But if you can just add to existing accounts them let me know because I have a 75% off of EVE coupon on Steam for some reason and I think it'd stack with the already lowered price >_>

EDIT: Actually, it says right in the store page that product keys will not work on existing accounts. Damn.

Well if anyone here wants to try EVE for 75% off of 7 dollars, let me know.

Aw yeah, just discovered I have enough money to get the Iteron series of industrial ships :D hell, it seems I can actually afford all 5 pretty easily, but the problem is training... it'd take 3 hours to get up to 2, 17 hours up to 3, 4+ days up to 4... I dunno if I really want to divert my training away from other industrial stuff that long. But the Iteron mk 3 has 5000 base cargo... +15% for the skill bonus, +17.5 x 2 for my expanded cargohold I's... A rather huge improvement over my current 340 >_>

Get it up to 3, at the very least. The Itty 1-3 are just a progression in hold size, but the Itty 4 has a slightly smaller hold in exchange for faster movement and alignment. The Itty 5 is the best Tech 1 Industrial all-around, but blargh training Industrial V.

So I bought an Iteron Mk. 2 because I had time to play today and I figured I could recoup my losses pretty quickly anyways. And I was right. I can basically afk for two hours in 0.9 space and I'll get 300k-ish ISK. Kinda disappointed that there's only one high-power slot, but oh well. Got the meta level 4 version of Miner I and it's improved mining times by a bit anyways. Not having to run back every 5 minutes really helps, and I turned off all audio except sound effects so I'm not totally oblivious.

People gank anything for laughs. You're excited about 300k ISK in an hour; I'm disappointed to not make ~30mil in the same time frame (if I'm trying to earn ISK). And sometimes, you just want to see fireworks and paying 2 mil for a gank-fit Thrasher can be worth it.

The main problem is how inefficient it is. Mine in you Navitas (or better, an Osprey or Scythe) in an empty system, jettison the ore into a can, and then use your industrial to empty the can as needed. Jettisoned canisters (jetcans) stay in space for two hours after launch and can hold 27.5k m3 of stuff. Also they can be stolen from, hence the empty system.

This was a spur-of-the-moment thing, and I didn't know about the trials back then ;_; ah well, it's just seven days. Still, it's pretty amazing that I got the first month for under two bucks. And yeah, that was one of the guides I've been checking out recently; I guess misinterpreting that was what made me think to mine with industrials >__> Added you by the way! I didn't mention it in this topic yet I guess by my name's Break Alluvial.

The system I'm in hardly ever has more than 2-3 people in it at max, though. And most of them have Iterons too apparently >__> I've seen one Hulk and a few Navitas around, but nothing too great beyond that. I knew about jetcanning, but I don't feel ready enough to go out and find an empty 0.9 sec zone. Honestly, it seems like a bigger chance that someone will steal my jetcan than blast away my Iteron. Already made a profit with it anyways! If it gets blown up, I'll just collect my insurance and go back to my Navitas.

J/w? Dunno what that is, but I've got 2.7m ISK on hand, about half a dozen blueprints, Navitas, Iteron Mk. 2, and about another 2.5 million in parts like expanded cargo II. So my total net worth is probably around 6 million or so right now.

I recently tried producing a few drones to see how much actual profit I could make with my current skills, and I ended up with only about 1k ISK profit for 4~ hours of manufacturing ;_;
