I know nothing about Blizzard or PC games in general.

I usually preorder from amazon or if some other place has a special bonus I'll preorder there.

But most online places still have it as unavailable.

So my question is, where should I preorder it (online/in-store, Gamestop/amazon, etc)?

Well if you're gonna get it retail, Amazon with release day shipping is the best

Buying it on battle.net...is that like a purely digital release?

Or if you preorder it from them then you get to pre-load it digitally and then they will ship the actual game?

I doubt Blizzard would give someone both a digital and a physical copy. It's either or.

Pretty sure battle.net only does digital releases. So if you want him to have a physical copy, go with Amazon.

Order it on battle.net. Unless you specifically want whatever comes with a physical copy, with Blizzard there really is no point in worrying about having the disc, the way they do things now. This is coming from someone who likes having the disc to go with the game. Since it all has to be married to a person's account anyway and has to be played with an internet connection anyway, and since it can be digitally downloaded at will, there's zero incentive to having a disc.
