Seriously, it's Giles in a leather suit murdering people legally! And as we know from that Buffy episode, he has a lovely singing voice while he does it. What's not to love??

From: vcharon | #200 Wolverine's inclusion as "assassin" seems to be based on his early history (he was an assassin sent against Professor X). I'm really dubious on "Hey I used to be an assassin, but you never hear that much about it". Anyone more familiar with Wolverine care to clarify. I'm leaning towards inclusion for him.
Still leaning away on Bauer; events that happened prior to the show, not what the character is known for. As for Vegeta, did he carry out actual assignments?
If you are dubious on the "I used to be an assassin, but we don't talk about it," then pretty much all the Suikoden characters qualify in this aspect, with the possible exception of Dolph who isn't actually even in yet.
There's a handful of people on the list who have killing as part of the job, but I wouldn't really consider assassins. James Bond, Ada Wong and Boba Fett for example, I'd consider more like a spy/agent/merc who does many things including killing/assassinating. While I would say an assassin is someone who does nothing (or at least 90%) but killing jobs >_>. But it depends on how vague vcharon wants to keep the definition

if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it do the other trees laugh?
Generally, Wikipedia is fairly helpful. If they source the character as an assassin, generally it almost always is. Those first two are assassins, and Ada Wong was basically modeled after Nikita in just about every way.
As for Suikoden, yeah I'm aware of that as well. It's on an individual basis however; my question is that is Jack Bauer's "assassination" past really enough to even qualify him as an assassin. Soldiers aren't assassins, they are soldiers, even though they sometimes have the same goals.
I know I voted for Ventress and one other before me- cody I think?

Let me know of any other problems on the list. I am still browsing over it to be sure myself, but help is always nice (especially since I am not familiar with all the source material). I may begin the contest tonight or tomorrow, will depend on how late it gets.
Dear Giley, I am so sorry can you forgive me for this?

On one hand it has got a solid group characters, a good number of which I like and will be voting for. On the other hand it has got Desmond Miles, the blandest and most boring protagonist in the history of ever.
It's either the best group of nominations so far... or the worst

The only thing that somewhat saddens me is that Jade always gets the shaft from these compared to Kitana and Mileena, despite being the best of the three from a gameplay and aesthetic perspective.
But I can't complain otherwise.
-- SuperNiceDog won the Guru contest super nicely!
He probably has more of a chance at the Assassins title than the Robots title, but I would be very surprised if he didn't crack the top 10 in both fields.
