Should I read the book first or can I just go ahead and watch the show?

The show is a great adaptation and I didn't even notice anything missing when I read the book. But I'm sure diehards can probably pick things out. I thought it was good to watch the show first so I can place the names to faces and now I'm on the third book and loving it.

If you're going to read the books, start with the books imo so you don't have an awkward switch. Also, there is some stuff left out (though nothing major, really), so it's probably best for story consistency as well.

The show is awesome, though, and well worth watching.

Speaking as someone who hasn't read the books the show is perfectly watchable without knowledge of the books

Though I think it starts a bit slow and it probably feels less that way if you've read the books-- mostly cause I'm pretty sure people get the "ah I remember this" feeling to help them get more out of the first few episodes and get more attached to the slew of characters they lump on you.

No problem!

doesn't matter which one you start with, both are pretty great and they complement each other, too, with the book getting more in-depth with the main characters and their thought processes while the show gives the audience more insight into the goings-on of the other supporting characters
