Well as long as it's only about actual piracy and not "you used some copyright images on your website, SHUT THE WHOLE THING DOWN," which looks to be the case since it's all measures dealing with downloading files, that doesn't sound quite so bad

of course pursuing the downloader rather than the distributor is dumb but at least this means those who are smart enough to get around their deterrent methods can still get what they want

SuperNiceDog is a vicious breed and should be banned from further Guru contests.

This means profits for lawyers more than anything else. Let them try to litigate against small individuals. The only way the RIAA can win money is if people settle with them. If they go to trial everyone loses except the lawyers. They tried this before and this is what they realized pretty quickly.

I think that's probably why they wanted SOPA in the first place- so they could pass the costs of enforcing piracy from themselves onto the government.

I cringe every time I hear or see this and sadly people still take it seriously, in this era where we can be imprisoned indefinitely or even killed without trial, where the police have free reign to brutalize citizens that haven't committed crimes, where light bulbs that aren't imported from china are going to be illegal, where supporting the corrupt insurance sector is going to be mandatory

I wonder if people in soviet russia thought they were free

Oh, actually, never mind, they're trying to get ISPs to enforce antipiracy measure for them instead of the courts. Well, that's quite telling- they can't turn a profit on litigation so they're contracting with ISPs instead. Probably more effective. And not SOPA at all.
