Oh man, this episode made me feel so bad for Bolin. And this whole love rectangle thing is super lame. I hope it's like, just part of the very beginning phase of the story and eventually gets resolved and goes away. But I doubt that's the plan -__-

I hope they give us a reason to hate Asami eventually because so far I feel kind of guilty disliking her just for being an overly doting girlfriend. Like, they get to the tournament finale vs. the Wolf Bats and she's like "Surprise! I was dating Tano all along, lol f*** you Mako!" Okay, maybe not something that obvious but you get what I mean.
Speaking of Tano he's pretty damn cool. I immediately took him for a Firebender because of the pale skin and eyes, but upon the rewatch he is actually a Waterbender. Neat dynamic with Korra and I can't wait to see where that goes.
Takes a hard heart not to feel for Bolin there. At least it seems his side of the "rectangle" is resolved now and it'll just be between Korra, Mako and Asami. Mako should really just make up his mind - I thought hurting his bro would've made him realise that, but evidently not. Korra seems to have learned from what happened, so hey. Personally I'd prefer Korra/Mako, but I don't care too much, especially since there's no big reason to dislike Asami (yet). I hope there's something more to Asami's character to make this arc more interesting - I speculated before that she might be working for the Equalists, but there's plenty of other possibilities. Little thing I liked that will probably never be remembered is hearing something meaningful from Pema.
Predix: The Fire Ferrets get beaten in the final, though it'll be a tight match.
I enjoyed this ep, but I wish there was an equalist angle in there somewhere - perhaps a protest at the tournament which halts play? Something just to show the conflict is bubbling up.

I expect they are saving that for the final match. Though I wonder if the equalist would do that, as it clearly paints them as an villain group. It appears nonbenders enjoy watching the probending matches.
It pains me to put Asami's relationship with Mako over Korra's, but I am really not feeling it so far. Maybe that's the whole point and I'm falling right into the writers' hands, but wow those two are not working out.
Yeah I agree Gen, I really don't care for Mako and Korra together. I kinda like Korra and Bolin, they're at least sweet. I think maybe it's just because I don't care much for Mako as a character. I never really like the dark broody types. Like I didn't like Zuko at all.

I feel like they just had to get it out of the way, because they couldn't just ignore it.
I mean the romance was heavy in this episode, but by the end, you had Korra accepting Asami, Mako and Bolin back to friends, Korra friends with Mako and Bolin again. It seems like it's all pretty resolved at this point.
Also I love how Korra screws everything up between the entire team. So realistic when it comes to girls.
Anyways, Tano or whatever is hilarious. I can't wait for the 1v1 tiebreaker between him and Korra. And I can't wait until he becomes a good guy when fighting against the equalists, because that's totally gonna happen

Like I said, this episode was good because it got all the romance out of the way. I doubt they will focus too heavily on the love rectangle anymore. And even if it does come back every once in a while, at least it's way better than the awkward mess that was Aang/Katara.
I felt like it at the very least addressed the obvious lines of love, as well as progressing the tournament. Basically they jammed a bunch of character development and said "we know some of you hate this, so here's probending!". Plus I think it galvanized the trio well.

Gwindor posted... I can't think of any that were worse.
Maybe the painted lady, but it would be cutting pretty close.
The Painted Lady was the one that came to mind immediately. Any Katara-heavy episode that doesn't also involve either Sokka or Toph just as heavily is automatically bad (unless it features a Bloodbending psychopath). The Great Divide was also pretty terrible.
Honestly, though the love rectangle elements were pretty yuck this wasn't an especially bad episode for me. Like I said before, the romance wasn't as noxious as I assumed it would be, and the Pro-Bending broke it up well enough. I would actually say the episode right before it was worse. Blah blah task force blah blah very little action blah blah pretty yet one dimensional love interest blah blah surprise Amon appearance that doesn't really go anywhere. End. At least this episode introduced some real conflict in both the physical sense (Tahno) and in the emotional sense.
just caught up to everything and i just have to say that the animation is just downright gorgeous and i'm loving the setting and the atmosphere of the series and am kinda saddened that it's only for two seasons with just 26 episodes
i never minded the "filler" episodes of TLA and this first one for LoK was hilarious (even when Bolin got his heart broken!) and still had pretty cool fight scenes
i'm no romance fan but some of you seem to be going "eww romance" just because "eww romance" when this episode handled it as well as any cartoon about teenagers would (with perfect comedy, respect for the complicated reality of teenage relationships, and avoiding that oh so awful cliche of kids being love gurus)
that and the fact that Korra was shown to be attractive for her general awesomeness and not just for her physical beauty makes this an episode with real weight
and i think we'll be getting back on track plot-wise right after this considering we're almost halfway through!
