Any cool news that came out at GDC?

Eh, maybe. I haven't really been paying attention to the news blogs and besides the talks, the only stuff to do is walk around and try out new game tech, pick up SWAG and network. There were a fair amount of game demos though. I played some unannounced XBLA games, some announced XBLA games, some Vita games, and a bunch of really gimmicky but not really good or bad PC games. Mostly shooters trying to show off new tech.

Obviously, this doesn't really answer your question, but yeah.

Pretty awesome. Her lecture was really good too. I went up to her after and simply said "Hi, I'm Silvercross!"

She said nothing for a moment and was like "OH! Board 8!!!"

Yeah, it was a magical moment for sure.

So you're a tester, right? What do you do to network? Are you trying to get testing jobs at better studios or what?

I'm a QA Manager actually, which means it's a lot less about testing, and a lot more about organizing teams, creating and managing test documents, managing outsourcing and other resources, as well as communicating the state of our products to the rest of our employees.

Honestly, there's not much for QA at GDC, but GDC is as much a place to learn as a place to improve. While most of the lectures are about improving your skills in a game development field, a lot of them are for people looking to transition into something else. I mostly attended game design sessions and seminars and talked to people at the Crytek, Unreal and other development kit booths.

Networking for me is less about trying to get my name out there, and more about just making new friends and connections.

Oh and of course I exchange business cards with people because it's fun, it works, and it makes me feel like an adult.
