For Giant Bomb, 4/5 does not equal 8/10. They rank games based on how likely you are to enjoy them. Also they don't do half points, so if they gave it one point higher it would have been a "perfect score." In that case, everyone would still freak out since they'd think EA paid them or something silly like that.

Can I ask you guys an honest question

I didn't and still don't really know what Giant Bomb is, but I tried to watch their Deadly Premonition stuff because you guys talk about them all the time (and there was no way in hell I was watching them play Persona 4 when I still might finish it myself someday) and it was two guys making really obvious jokes that often talked over whatever story there might have been and then they'd go 'lol whoops talked over the story oh well'

Does it get better or is there something else I should focus on? Not hate, just... looking for guidance I guess

To be honest I didn't really enjoy the Deadly Premonition Endurance Run, while I understand that you want to finish the game yourself first (Which you should!), the Persona 4 ER is a lot better.

To me the best parts of Giant Bomb is their podcast, which I listen to every week and is both informing and hilarious, and their Quick Looks. They take a pretty casual approach at covering games, and the results are generally hilarious. A couple of examples

Well it's a build up of material as far as the Endurance runs go.

Also, which ER were you watching? The Jeff/Vinny run is way better than the Brad/Ryan one, because Brad is terrible at video games and not very funny.

P4 run is also way better.

Most of the GB love comes from their weekly podcasts, Quick Looks, and similar material, though.

This. Brad's probably my least favorite of the crew (Vinny and Jeff are clearly the best, all are likeable though). Brad arguing for Skyrim as GOTY was annoying (Though I do think it's better than Saints Row 3), his arguments were basically "That glitch didn't happen to me so it mustn't be an actual thing."

Also he died like 3 times in the first level of New Super Mario Bros Wii.

Alright I'll look into the podcast and perhaps some of their other stuff than just Endurance Runs. Not sure which run I was watching, or that there were even two runs, but I didn't make it far in the grand scheme of things so that might be understandable. Thanks for the answers!

Eh, I'm not a fan of "Best of" vids for GB, not getting all the context sometimes ruins some jokes, and some of the best jokes aren't in there BECAUSE they require context.

I fully agree, but for the guy just now trying them out, the Best Of's are probably the best way to indoctrinate them.

You're right, though. One of my personal favorites is their Golden Sun: Dark Dawn Quick Look because of the absurd voices they give Isaac and the little girl.

Yeah I don't watch anything GB for its humor content, I just check quick looks to see what a game is like if I'm potentially interested in it

Thing is they all kinda suck at video games so I can't imagine an Endurance Run being fun at all, unless you're the type of person who also thinks LPs of I Wanna Be The Guy with entire 10 minute videos stuck on one screen are funny

Vinny is fine at games, thats why his runs are better. That's not a situation that cones up for him.

Brad is the one who spent an hour long Deadly Premonition video fighting one normal enemy.

The differences between those 2 runs are astounding.

No, they don't. They rate a game based on how much they enjoyed it. A review that doesn't reflect the reviewer's view is severely flawed.
