I don't really read much, but with the movie coming out soon and so much hype surrounding it I thought I might see what you all thought about this trilogy.
So, is it worth a read? What's the genre? I don't even really know what the plot is about. I suppose I could just go to wikipedia, but I generally value B8's opinion when it comes to things like this.

What do you guys say?
I know at least one person has read the first book recently. Can't remember who it was though.

I read it! The first of the trilogy is pretty good, but unfortunately it all goes downhill pretty fast from there. Still worth a read!

It reads really fast so it's not too much of a time investment.

The first one's decent. The second two are much worse. I think you'd like them though.

Ehhhh.

I only read the first book. The writing style was kind of awkward and in my opinion the concept would have been MUCH better suited to having multiple point of view characters, rather than one. The pacing is seriously weird towards the end as well and it really kills any tension that had built up to that point.

All that said, it's still an easy read and was entertaining enough for me to finish in a day.

The first two were worth it, though my point may be biased since I'm in that 13-year-old target audience. They get 8/10; they're decent books. however, everyone else in my town have Brawl-like hype to the upcoming movie. Yikes.

Mockingjay dissapointed me, though...highly.

Mockingjay just wasn't very good. Even the target audience agrees.

The Brawl-like hype around the movie has even put me off to some degree.

Having read a synopsis on The Hunger Games I will now probably check it out, but only because I enjoyed Battle Royale so much.

P.S. you should still read the Gone series. 4/6 of the books are out. Book 5 comes out in April. They average a bit over 500 pages each and once I started reading them I could not stop.

So what's Gone about and why should I read it?

In a small coastal town everyone 15 years of age and older suddenly disappears. Some of those left behind start to develop powers. Also they are surrounded by a barrier preventing any contact with the outside world.

When someone hits their 15th birthday they also disappear.

A lot of the first book is spent figuring out the exact nature of their problem and the events the caused it.

Its a little bit 'Lord of the Flies', a little bit 'X-men' and very intense throughout. I hope I'm doing the story justice, I'm trying to give away as little as possible.

There's hype surrounding the movie? Better not become another Twilight god dammit. I don't want no Team Peeta/Team Gale bull s***.

Luckily I don't think these books really merit themselves to such a thing.

I have read the books. The first half of the first book is boring, then the second half is really good. Worth a read. The second book falls in the same category, starts off boring, gets really good later on. But be warned that it ends on a cliffhanger. Which isn't too bad.

But then the third book.

F*** the author who's name I have purposely forgotten because I am so god damn mad at her.

FD, Gone sounds kind of cool. I think I'll check it out, sounds like something I might be interested in. I'll let you know if I do end up picking it up.

Maybe I'll start a read through topic for Hunger Games and space it in such a way that I finish it around the movie premier. Then compare the two. Could be fun.

I just finished the trilogy. Greatly enjoyed all three. I understand why people don't like the third book, but I thought it was terrific. And I really loved the ending.

Be interesting to do a poll of people who read Stephen King's Dark Tower series and liked the ending. I bet there's a strong correlation between the two.

Yeah, I read the books because I was told it was like Battle Royale, and I really loved them. They're not AS good as BR (if only because BR managed to develop 36 characters in a 42 character cast over the course of the book), but still, really good.

Also I'm definitely underselling Gone in an effort not to give away any of the 'good stuff'. It has just as much of a dark side to it as a series about kids who are forced to kill each other. You will not be disappoint.

So, yeah. This hype has to lead to something decent or I will pick an arrow from a local armsdealer, take out a very special bow, and aim it deliberately at my pat- fine, no arrow to the knee jokes.

*general spoilers*

As previously mentioned much of the first book is spent learning some specifics about the situation. Yes some lines are drawn and s*** goes down, but not a whole lot of time passes from the initial vanishing of adults.

The second book is titled Hunger. As you might imagine food can begin to become a scarcity when all you've been living off of for a couple weeks is leftovers. That's when things really start to change.

And book 4 is just completely nuts from start to finish. One character in particular will have you so sad. I don't even want to think about it right now ;_;
