Which country overall is weirder?

Japan seems to take it at first, then when you start to think about it, seems kinda even.

I wouldn't call the US all that weird, but that's probably because I live here and most things seem normal to me.

japan does have some niche weirdness to be sure, but the us just trumps it in landmass for potential weirdness.

also, i'd sooner pit russia and germany ahead of japan on the weirdness scale. korea's doing a fine job trying to climb up there too. japan's weirder stuff mostly comes in the way they're open with sex, of which germany trumps 'em hard, and we've plenty of individuals who'll do more and worse over here. the US just grabs the weird stuff from everybody. you just need to go to a city for a while to realize it. we're the only place who would put a millionaire area within 5 blocks of the projects, and then decide that it's such a good idea we'll do it more often.

ha, forgot the dutch. they actually might take the crown for this.

weirdest crap we have has to be: 1) food, 2) various state rules, 3) how we structure our living surroundings (architecture not so much - even iceland has us beat with the dick mall), 4) how terribly inefficient our government can sometimes be, 5) our television.

that's without getting into any specifics there. state rules especially get bizarre once you start fielding them with nearby ones.

it's far more normal here in the US. partially due to volume, partially due to just the way the US is structured. we're open to violence and doing all kinds of weird stuff. regionally you'll easily be able to find groups of rural, urban, and suburban people and mix 'em together to get incredibly varied ideas, reactions, and things that convince you that they're worth doing despite being stupid. we're in a big country with incredibly different customs and beliefs over small distances. that affects the nation as a whole and makes for a lot of stuff that's different.

hell, how open we are with the melting pot is weirder than most things out there alone, let alone its influence on us.

Hrrrmmmm...

Initially, I'd want to say Japan is weirder.
Thinking about how weird the US is, I might not be able to make that call so quickly. It kind of depends what culture you're used to.

I would say that the US, in general, tries to regulate the weirdness. There are limits to what we are allowed to do (you couldn't tell that at first glance, though).

But Japan has many things that are downright bizarre, and practically taboo.

I think a lot of the stuff in the US is more stupid than weird.

Japan. Final answer.

<_<; Jerry Springer.
oh it's enough. one needs to look at daytime talk shows to realize that the redneck jokes didn't just come out of nowhere. or the racist ones.

or just plain people seeing stuff like springer when it was still fresh, maury.... at anytime really, ricki lake when she was round, and like half a dozen others. and it's not even exclusively in english either, christina was on forever. still might be on, i dunno. but before this reality tv craze went on we had talk shows all the time.

still do. we just know that they all exist and aren't impressed by it anymore. we've become desensitized to such greats like 'my baby's daddy is my daddy', 'let us introduce you to the phone sex operator on national tv as you tell us about your habits and how much you've spent', or the good old classic instances where stuff like this:

occurs.

Immediate answer is Japan, but I've never spent one day there so how is that even remotely fair. I get the feeling that if I lived in Japan for a few years, I'd easily and resolutely reconsider. The United States has had a pretty big and long violence fetish. I'm not sure if pantie vending machines are less weird than declaring war every decade, but the latter seems more ****ed up.

And plenty of nations have historically been far more open sexually than the conservative United States. We're a bunch of prudish chickenhawks with a gaping detachment from those we bomb into oblivion. The Japanese are xenophobic sexual deviants with a still prevalent post-war victimization complex. Which is weirder? I don't think the answer is that clear.
