It's not even the fee I will have to pay for said semester. I was accepted to college and now they want me to pay in order to confirm it?

I can barely pay for my rent and internet, I can't handle all these bonus fees!

I'd assume it's to make sure you're serious. If you pay something in advance, then at least they've got some money from your slot if you decide not to bother turning up, and likewise you're less likely to just blow if off if you've already invested some money.

Unless there's already been other advance fees, I dunno how this stuff works.

Usually, that fee will either be applied towards tuition/fees or refunded to you if financial aid covers all of your tuition/fees.

I'm not sure, but I seem to recall a similar fee when I transfered from community collegeto university

Almost all colleges require a deposit. It's so you don't tell multiple colleges that you are attending, and then choose one of them when the semester starts, resulting in the others not being able to fill their seats.

The money should be credited to your tuition when you attend. At least it works that way in the US.
