I remember reading about a group of sailors on a lifeboat in the 1700s or something (maybe 1600s). One of them convinced all but one that they needed to gamble to see who would be eaten so that the others could survive, and only one other sailor refused. The one who convinced everyone drew the short straw, and the one who refused drew the second short straw to have to kill him.

I can't remember if this is something that actually happened or something from a movie or something, and my Google-fu is weak. Can anyone help me?
