I'm not really sure what the anime is going to do to reflect BW2. Since Ash is already about to meet Brycen in a few weeks, there's going to have to be some... long... filler arc until the Gen VI games come out. That said, apparently the new Poison gym leader is going to be in an episode in June. But unless Ash is going to go the Gary route and get more than eight badges, I don't see her being more than just a cameo.

And that filler arc can be like the Battle Frontier arc in Hoenn
Just let BW2 have a BF (...something like Emerald and Platinum,not that terrible subway) with 5-7 "Frontier Brains" and you got yourself a arc

The heroes emerge from a tunnel through a mountain to a snowy area, and are surprised at the snow. I can only wonder how long this tunnel is that it was only snowing on one end. I mean, Brock does mention that this tunnel is particularly long, but still. The heroes decide to stop in Shelter Town instead of continuing to Snowpoint City because who cares about the plot?

The heroes go to the pokemon center, and Dawn asks if there's a package for her, only to be told that there’s not, but that she’ll be informed when there is. By the way, I like how Nurse Joy is able to look up that information with only her first name and home city (Twinleaf Town). Apparently only Professor Oak, Gary, Ash, his mom, and Lt. Surge have last names.

Dawn lets Buneary out, and a girl named Ihatethischaracter grabs it and hugs it and says it's "cute to the maximum max," and wow, I have never wanted anyone under thirteen to die before. Well, other than my sisters, but I was fourteen at the time so that doesn't count. Ihatethischaracter explains that cuteness is the only important factor for how good a pokemon is, and explains that Piplup is not cute because of its bowling ball-shaped head. Hey, I bet Genny would like this girl. Well, in any case, Ihatethischaracter asks to battle Buneary, and Dawn accepts to avenge Piplup's honor.

Dawn sends out Buneary, and Ihatethischaracter sends out Cherubi, delaying the battle for a bit so she can stare at her own pokemon for an extra few seconds. Ihatethischaracter's strategy is to let Cherubi get hit, and clasp her hands and declare how cute it is to see her Cherubi in pain. When Cherubi uses protect, it even pretends to be hurt so Ihatethischaracter can still see it in pain. Jesus ****ing Hell this is dark. "When I see a pokemon take an attack... it gets me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside," and that she loves the “art” of pokemon taking damage. Jesus Mother****ing **** on a ****. In total fairness, she does specify that it's the valiance of taking an attack that impresses her, but still.

She only fights back because Brock threatens to end the battle prematurely. By the way, I love how Cherubi uses solar beam in literally less than one second after Ihatethischaracter tells it to even though it’s frequently a big point that it takes a while to charge up. Regardless, Buneary is defeated despite Cherubi only having experience at taking hits.

Brock declares this to be not right, and decides to battle her next to prove to her that cuteness isn't the only important part of a pokemon. Unfortunately, she doesn't find Sudowoodo or Croagunk cute and refuses to battle them, so Brock reveals his last pokemon: Happiny. She agrees to fight it, but Brock insists on three battles with each of his pokemon.

A disguised James agrees to be their referee. Cherubi versus Sudowoodo! In a moment that is actually clever, Brock has Sudowoodo hurt Cherubi, then use mimic to copy its pained expression, and the move fake tears, to impress Ihatethischaracter with its valiance. James, confused, declares the match a tie and forces them to bring out their next pokemon.

Croagunk versus Chingling. Croagunk almost loses, but then the most amazing still shots happen.



Coragunk then recovers and knocks out Chingling.

Ihatethischaracter almost throws out her third pokeball, but at the last second, grabs a fourth pokeball from her purse (that literally has nothing except one pokeball in it) and declares that she shall use it instead. She reveals that she used to this pokemon was incredibly cute, but people told her it wasn't, and eventually she just stopped using it and instead caught pokemon everyone would think are cute. Since Brock has taught her the true meaning of cuteness, she sends out her subjectively cutest pokemon: Shellder. Team Rocket decides Shellder isn't cute enough to bother stealing, so they just steal Chingling and Cherubi. Shellder and Happiny blast Team Rocket off, and the heroes declare that outward appearance doesn't matter and only what’s inside does. Aw, how nice. So that's why you're going to evolve Pikachu now, right?

A few hours later (I assume), Dawn's package arrives; it's from her mom. It's warm clothing for everyone.

I guess she just guessed Ash and Brock's sizes?

I was going to give this episode a 4/10, but I decided the wrestling match shots were worth two extra points by themselves.

Maybe I only like her because she reminds me fo myself. Minus the sadist part, it would be just like me to find something totally adorable that literally no one else thinks is even remotely cute (like 90% of every middle evo in existence). I wouldn't be self-conscious enough to stop using it though.

Hey now, Shellder is pretty cute on its own terms. By all means, though, watch Marilyn in action, the problem is that she takes sadism and cuteness to new, very annoying levels.

It should be emphasized that she in fact uses the word "valiant" about as often as Sukizo uses the word "remarkable".

I am starting to wonder if this is an ill-guided attempt to incorporate that thing from the games where you get to choose a word from a list that they decide is awesome and use repeatedly. I mean, even Candice is going to fall heavily into this trap.

The heroes arrive at Snowpoint City and are met by Zoey, who’s native to this place. They're then greeted by Candice, the gym leader, who is apparently an overactive girl obsessed with fashion. Man, Pokemon writers, I can just tell that you don't rely on stereotypes at all when you do your job. Candice shows the heroes around town, including the school that she and Zoey attended as children, and since she has so few challengers because her gym is so far north, she is a teacher here. At like ten years old. By the way, Zoey calls Candice "Ms. Senior," and the characters act like this is completely normal. I know this is normal in Japan (I assume), but combined with Candice screaming out “get you kiai on” every few minutes with absolutely no explanation, if you weren’t already familiar with Japanese tropes (like, say, if you were an American child watching a cartoon about monsters fighting each other) you would have no idea what was going on.

Anyway, she asks the heroes to help her teach her class.

This school trains people up to age ten, until they're ready to go on their pokemon journey (we’re not shown the children being taught math or literature or anything, so I can only assume they’re taught enough to read the label on a potion and told “you are in Japan the Rape of Nanking did not happen” and sent on their way), but also trains adults who want to get back into pokemon. Candice asks Ash to give some advice to her students (none of which are younger than twenty-five), and his only advice is "the best defense is a good offense," after which a detective makes a quip when he finds the body of a dead cop three days away from retirement and the opening credits roll.

Well, from this point, there’s nothing really to say. We learn more about Zoey’s past (she caught a Glameow before she was ten and lied to her parents when she was told to give it up, so kids: the way to become happy in life is to lie to your parents) and herpderpblastingoffaaagain.
