Rules:
There may be spoilers for all seven books and 8 movies Each match will last for exactly 24 hours. Any votes after that point will not count. Discussion is encouraged but not required. Make sure all of your votes are obvious. I should know who you are voting for, basically don't bury your vote in the middle of a paragraph. No alt-voting. Ties will be replayed the next day with the rest of the matches. No vote-saves or rallying for specific characters. Telling people to vote is encouraged but don't tell them how to vote! Don't complain about the seeds, they were the result of a save-my. Because matches can overlap, results will be in this topic. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/61327435 Road to Division Semi-Finals (1)Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore defeats (16)Ludovic Bagman 22-1 (1)Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore defeats (9)Katie Bell 29-1 (4)George Weasley defeats (13)Moaning Myrtle 19-4 (4)George Weasley defeats (5)Aberforth Dumbledore 24-6 Today's Match: (1)Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore (4)George Weasley -- Warning_Crazy Winner of Board 8 Big Brother! i may be running for senatorship (thanks nio) but i'm no SUPERNICEDOG ... (4)George Weasley So...the inferior Weasly twin, who gets about 20% of the lines, vs... "Ah" said Dumbledore gently, "Yes I thought we might hit that little snag!" "Snag?" said Fudge, his voice still vibrating with joy. "I see no snag, Dumbledore!" "Well," said Dumbledore apologetically, "I'm afraid I do." "Oh, really?" "Well it's just that you seem to be labouring under the delusion that I am going to -- come quietly. I am afraid I am not going to come quietly at all, Cornelius. I have absolutely no intention of being sent to Azkaban. I could break out, of course -- but what a waste of time, and frankly, I can think of a whole host of things I would rather be doing." For all that, yes, there's a lot more to Dumbledore than just style...but George Weasly, on the other hand, is all style and humor. So...him facing a character with more style and a decent claim for having more humor is just...a really rough match for him. -- Cats land on their feet. Toast lands peanut butter side down. (4)George Weasley I admire the personal strength it must take to continue a legacy alone after losing what must've felt like a half of yourself, but Dumbledore is just a much deeper character. I could write a book on him, and the impact he's had on those around him. I probably couldn't write a 1-page essay on George without somehow mentioning Fred (who I wouldn't have voted over Dumbledore either unless through an act of pity). -- Punny worked hard on this! - http://img.imgcake.com/Punny/Gennypngas.png Nio-chan and me! - http://img.imgcake.com/nio/gennypngun.png ... Dumbledores character is, in my opinion saved by one thing -- the fact that Harry lives. If Harry had died, that would make Dumbledore, in my opinion, a terrible character. Because for all he says he cares about Harry... if he had been wrong -- he'd have been raising, in the words of Snape, Potter to Slaughter. From the start, he manipulates everything by putting Harry at home with the Dursley's. And in all that time the only thing he does is... put a Squib a neighborhood over. Does he ever check to see if Harry's being remotely taken care of? That he knows he's a Wizard? No. He doesn't. He MIGHT check on him. He's Dumbledore, and seems to know a lot. But he never does anything to attempt to improve Harry's quality of life. NOTHING whatsoever. Why? So he can not be famous Harry -- which is oddly enough exactly how Snape sees him ins pite of everything. Yes, Harry is safe with the Dursley's. But what's stopping Dumbledore from having a Wizard move in next door to keep an eye on him? I'm sure a wizard family would love to watch over the famous Harry Potter. And if they were loyal to Dumbledore, they wouldn't say anything to Harry either. What makes all of this worse is -- if Harry had died, he'd have lived his life about as unhappily as can be expected of a person without them going TOTALLY NUTS. And even then he's lucky Harry didn't go insane and kill his whole muggle family ala Tom Riddle and his magical family. In book 5 he ignores Harry for very stupid reasons. And then he basically sends Harry on a Suicide Mission (I love a good Suicide Mission). I think Dumbledore is MORE paranoid than Moody. He doesn't want word of his plans getting to anyone. Such to the point he doesn't put into place any backup plans. He never makes sure that Harry will somehow get the information that he needs. Would it have killed him, during their meetings, to say "Oh by the way I destroyed the ring using the sword of Gryffindor. But I suppose a Basilisk fang would work." OR I DON'T KNOW! INSTEAD OF LEAVING HIM THE SWORD! HOW ABOUT LEAVING HIM A BASILISK FANG! Dumbledore is pretty awesome. But when it comes to Harry, he can be totally irrational, paranoid, and ill-planned. Still his awesomeness compensates for this -- but if Harry had died, I don't think it would have. -- See You In Another Life, Brother. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'm sure a wizard family would love to watch over the famous Harry Potter. And if they were loyal to Dumbledore, they wouldn't say anything to Harry either. That actually happened in the series; I know there was one that intervened or at least reported/talked to Harry during the pre-Hogwarts dementor attack in the 5th book. Not a powerful wizard; I think she may have been a squib. But there was still someone. -- http://www.nbc.com/parks-and-recreation/exclusives/ron-dancing-animated.gif ... Copied to Clipboard!

This is kind of a pity vote, but I think the two are pretty close. Dumbledore is a good character, but I think George may actually have more screen time. And he is funny... I don't know where the stuff about Fred having 80% of the good lines comes from, on my current readthrough I've been trying to pay attention to which of them says what and so far they seem about equally funny. -- "Congratulations Thomas and Sylvia! Because for all he says he cares about Harry... if he had been wrong -- he'd have been raising, in the words of Snape, Potter to Slaughter. I don't know--I think that would be a pretty neat twist. Take this character that most of the audience had been thinking was almost faultless, just very busy and unable to be everywhere at once, and have him turn out to be a manipulating scheemer who doesn't care about the things he says he does. Certainly it would be another way to explain why he obsesses about love, but never marries or dates (although sure, "he's gay" also works as an explanation). And if he were cast in such a role, he'd be an excellent grey character--he's on the good guy side, and definitely fighting all out, but to him the means justify the ends. And...well, really, this kind-of is the case. He initially WAS raising Harry for the slaughter--there's no way he could have known that Voldemort would use Harry's blood in his resurrection. Of course, he really does care for Harry, so he felt a moment of triumph when he realized that Voldemort was keeping the sacrifice magic alive. But it seems likely that he would have gone through with the plan even if Harry were to die from it. -- Cats land on their feet. Toast lands peanut butter side down.
