I'm bored and I haven't made any list topics here in a while... so let's do this! I'm gonna be ranking my five favorite Pokemon of each type ITT, with write-ups. There'll be some weird choices, for sure; some will make you shake your head, while others will (hopefully) make you pump your fist in the air and/or shed manly tears of joy.
You ready to get Bosco'D?

My top two favorite Pokemon period are in this type! Niice. Stoutland and Snorlax are just ridiculously awesome, seriously. They're a ton of fun to use in battle, their designs are fantastic, and their Pokedex entries rock. Plus, I'm a huge dog lover, and Stoutland is the coolest dog in the game; which is saying something, because the competition is tough.
As for the others... Dodrio is one of my all-time favorites as well. It's a blast to use in battle (even if Staraptor pretty much outclasses it), and aside from its pre-evo, it's the only Pokemon based on an ostrich. I freaking love ostriches, so that's a big deal. Bouffalant is a bull with a ****ing afro - what's not to like? And finally, Kecleon has a sweet gimmick, a great design, and a really fun movepool.

Stoutland- I need to use Snorlax- Top 5 material Dodrio- Always called him a dodo bird rather than Ostrich. I need to stop that. Bouffalant- Should have been a Tauros evo rather than a rip-off Kecleon- YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
So in all technicality, I'd remove the rip-off but that's all my criticism. I missed the reasoning of you liking it.
There are only two starter Pokemon that made these lists, and Typhlosion is one of them. He definitely evokes nostalgia for me, and the entire Cyndaquil family is immaculately designed. Even Typhlosion, though, can't quite measure up to the rest of this lineup, which includes: a lovable puppy; the best version mascot ever; a hellhound; and a camel with ****ing VOLCANOES ON ITS BACK.

This is probably going to be one of my least controversial lists, mainly because Gengar is #1 - and for good reason. That guy is a frickin' BAMF. Banette is considered by a lot of people to be the creepiest Pokemon in the game, but I actually think it's strangely lovable (and the one on my Pokemon White team is surprisingly awesome). Drifblim may seem like a questionable choice, but trust me, you haven't lived until you've tried using it. And wrapping up the lineup are The Iron Giant and a Ninjask shell.

I'll never, ever understand the hate Probopass gets. It's actually a surprisingly good tank, its movepool is unique... and best of all, it totally looks like Groucho Marx! I can see it now:
THE PROBO BROS. IN 'DUCKLETT SOUP'
(Come to think of it, I can also picture Bisharp in a Pokemon version of Power Rangers.)
The other three Pokemon are straight-up badass. Skarmory almost made me wish I went with Silver instead of Gold back in the day.

Steelix as #1. BEST STEEL RANKING EV. wait, what about Scizor? Oh wait, he can replace the epicness of anyone on that list.
Oh right, minus Probopass. He may be a good tank, but the reason he's a jobber to fan base is because of DAT NOSE. Weird animations to him for having it.
I still remember my first time playing through Pokemon Blue. It was brand-new at the time, and right from the beginning, I thought it was a really fun game. It really grabbed me, though, when I made it to the Pewter Gym, and the Jr. Trainer sent out this frickin' awesome Pokemon called a Diglett. That was the first Pokemon I knew I had to have - I'm not sure why I liked it so much, but when I finally made it to Diglett's Cave and caught one, I was ecstatic! It's been one of my favorite Pokemon since then.
Marowak and Quagsire are two other longtime favorites of mine; Marowak just looks insanely cool, and Quagsire was my bro when I first played Pokemon Gold. Gastrodon may seem like a weird choice, but I've grown to love it after using it in HeartGold's Battle Frontier - it's saved my ass so many times. I also like how its design changes, depending on the hemisphere it's caught in; I wish that concept was used more often. At #5 is Golurk - once again. One list wasn't good enough for him!

Scizor would definitely be in my top ten Steels. It's way better than Scyther, too.
Haunter is awesome as well, but I'm trying not to include multiple same-line Pokemon on these lists, and I like Gengar a little better. As for Ivysaur? Don't get your hopes up. :P

Eh. I'd criticize ground but there are things within that make me not be able to criticize. Since the "it's just so cool" attributes are on actually cool Pokes.
I will give my Top 5 on each type after you finish, just to compare the type thing, then you get the right to criticize mine.
Please don't kill me, Articuno and/or Froslass fans. >_____> If nothing else, take a moment to consider how awesome Mamoswine is before you shoot! Seriously, the Swinub line is just amazing.
Delibird and Vanilluxe are two of the funniest Pokemon in the game, so I had to include 'em. Dewgong is mostly here due to nostalgia, as well as the "Boss Dewgong" joke from the Save My topics. And last but not least, Lapras is hard not to love - it's docile yet powerful, and I loved its role in Super Mario 64. (rimshot)

Joke list.
Joke list? More like Bosco list.
Oh wait, they're synonymous...
J/k. For all the flak I give you Bosco, there hasn't been anything truly offensive to me yet. Though I suspect that'll change when you get to Electric.

BUT. Lapras takes more nostagia over Dewgong due to not having to catch it. Froslass doesn't need Ice Shard to go faster than a majority of her non-Legendary combatants.
Froslass is easily the best Ice-type. Got Salamence, Dragonite, Altaria, and other such 4x weakness against Ice? Bye bye because of Froslass, it doesn't matter if your Dragon-ness gives you Fire.
Let's get something out of the way here. The most badass Pokemon ever is not Charizard, Mewtwo, Gyarados, Scyther, Electivire, Luvdisc... etc, etc. No, it's the Pokemon that's a ****ING SHARK IN TORPEDO FORM. Whoever came up with that idea deserves to win the lottery, I swear.
In fact, every single Pokemon on this list is worthy of a pimpin' Isaac Hayes-produced theme song. While developing the Dark-types in this series, Game Freak really went all-out from a creative standpoint: a ghetto lizard and Mafioso crow are almost as awesome as a shark torpedo. Mightyena and Houndoom aren't quite as original, I guess, but they're still very cool in my book, and Mightyena's pre-evo was the first Dark type to be readily available early in the game. That's definitely a nice change of pace from the typical Normal/Poison/Bug/Flying types you see early on.

Gen IV did great with the Ice-type evolutions. Mamoswine, Froslass, Weavile all great. And although not as good as the others, it aso finally gave us an Ice Eeveelution.

Gotta be honest, I was expecting you to rag on me for the Vanilluxe love!

LMAO. I think I have a new #1 in the Ice category!

This. This is a good opinion right here.

I think I may be the only person to like Regice.
I like Regice a lot, actually! Probably my #6 or #7 for that type.
WickIebee posted... Said this last time... and here it is again.
Krookodile should replace Scrafty.
Krook is my #10 pick for that type. The Dark-type is friggin' stacked.

I love Altaria, for many reasons. There's its miracle run in the Save My Flying Pokemon contest, its remarkably original design (clouds for wings = WIN)... and of course, its amazing trolling capabilities. It has a ton of special bulk, and access to Cotton Guard, Roost and Dragon Dance - put two and two together, and you have one of the most lulzy fighters in the game (right up there with Dunsparce and Mandibuzz).
The other four are close behind, though. Druddigon was my White version team's MVP, and it also reminds me of Hooktail, a dragon from the Paper Mario series. (That's definitely a good thing.) Dragonite, Zekrom and Kingdra should need no explanations, frankly, but I'll give some anyway: Dragonite is a BEAST thanks to Mutliscale (and looks awesome), Zekrom is one of the best legendaries (and looks awesome), and Kingdra has sweet typing and good stat distribution (plus - you guessed it - he looks awesome).

The Bug type's Pokemon are remarkably underrated as far as design goes. None of these Pokemon - except possibly Yanmega - are particularly logical choices for a team, but they just look so damn cool. Ariados is, in fact, one of my top five Pokemon ever, and Vespiquen might be in my top ten. I'm not quite sure why I love Shuckle and Beedrill so much, but I guess nostalgia does funny things to us all. I'd like to give a shout-out to Pinsir, who barely lost the last slot to Bee #2.
