Holy crap, this was a bad level. Constantly launching you into open cliffs, bad rail detection which are also over cliffs, stupid hazards that are nearly impossible to get by that will throw you off cliffs, and then there are even more cliffs after all that. Just a really crappy design for a level. The boss having an OHKO move is also stupid. Really glad this is over with.

Just beat Sonic CD myself, yeah it was pretty underwhelming, definitely the weakest of the Genesis 2D Sonic games.
And from I heard, Japanese soundtrack > US soundtrack, still can't believe that someone at Sega thought that this was a good idea to replace this Game Over theme:
For this one:
Crush 40 still does a good Sonic Boom though:

Only on GameFAQs would criticallly acclaimed PC games lose to niche JRPGs Go Us!
Beat it. Not doing any other modes unless they differ anywhere other than playable character. Last half was almost as bad as 3D Blast. Will post full thoughts in a second.

FINAL ZONE RANKING: Leaf Forest > Ice Paradise > Hot Crater > Egg Utopia > Music Plant > XX > Techno Base > Sky Canyon
FINAL BOSS RANKING: XX > Music Plant > Leaf Forest > Egg Utopia > Hot Crater > Sky Canyon > Ice Paradise > Techno Base
The game started off good enough. Nothing too exciting, though definitely on par with the first Advance game. Then at the halfway point, the creators decided to throw away any decent level design they may have been capable of producing, and turned it into Cliffs: The Game. So many cheap deaths because you're thrown into a hazardous cliff area and either sprint over or get knocked back, only to fall to your death. Why they needed to throw this in, I have no idea. It becomes a bothersome attempt to get through each level being aware of the many death traps. Not fun at all. And then we have the bosses. Dear lord these were bad. It tries to pull off a sense of epicness, with the constantly scrolling screen. These types of bosses usually work pretty well for the series, but once every boss became focused around this idea, it became a poorly pulled off gimmick that got old quick. A lot of the time is spent trying to keep up with the boss in question, and when you finally reach it, chances are you'll get hit with some attack that was impossible to actually see coming. Jumps are constantly mistimed because of the physics engine it puts into these, and it's difficult to dodge a lot of attacks that would normally be fairly simple. Music is underwhelming again, but I honestly wasn't expecting much. It's not even on the standards that the first set though, which was fairly low. Overall, I'm quite disappointed. Maybe the game's overall enjoyment is taken from the other characters, but considering that I don't really care for the gameplay styles of those, I'm sincerely doubtful. Hoping SA3 will prove a more enjoyable experience.

I think I still have Sonic Advance buried in a cupboard somewhere. I want to try it again now, just to see how it holds up.
I don't remember how Advance 2 actually played, just that getting into the special stages was so badly designed I needed to buy the strategy guide just for that. That honor alone should make it the worst of the three.
Only played one level of SA3 (Arkham City and Devil Survivor have been keeping me pretty occupied), and it was honestly a lot of fun. Hopefully it stays that way!

Man that took way too long to do, I beat both stories several years ago but never got a Chaos Emerald and didn't bother to look-up how to get one until recently.
-- Oh brilliant blade of cold as steel, rend the infinite darkness and crush my enemies to nothing... SAVAGE WOLF FURY
FINAL ZONE RANKING: Chaos Angel > Toy Kingdom > Cyber Track > Altar Emerald > Twinkle Snow > Route 99 > Sunset Hill > Ocean Base
FINAL BOSS RANKING: Altar Emerald > Twinkle Snow > Sunset Hill > Cyber Track > Ocean Base > Route 99 > Toy Kingdom > Chaos Angel
I never really expected a game in this playthrough to surpass Sonic 2 and S&K (Other than SA2 beforehand), but Sonic Advance 3 comes pretty damn close. The level design is incredibly memorable and a lot of fun. The difficulty level is forgiving, but able to make you work for your accomplishment. The ability to switch characters at any point is something that should've been added in the first two instead of giving everyone their own story. One stage may be difficult using Sonic, so I could use Tails to make it easier to stay on platforms. It's a very helpful addition. The boss fights are some of the best the series has to offer. The final boss in particular is a ton of fun. It's nice how after the amount of terribleness Advance 2's bosses held, that they were able to pull some of these off. The only one that really annoyed me was Chaos Angel, since you couldn't really tell when it was going to flip, making it annoying. The music is the only thing that isn't a huge improvement. It's still below average. Chaos Angel Act 1 is the only memorable one to me. Overall, this is a fantastic game that rivals the Genesis era games.

Man, I'm like out of it when it comes to the DS Sonic games because apparently I had not realize that there was even a stage select screen in Sonic Rush Adventure until just now. Like I would seriously travel through the sea again just to replay stages. >_>
Welp, looks like I can finally go back to playing this game.
