Its disc-drive doesn't work and it has no Wi-Fi capability, so how can I make the best of this situation? I understand Microsoft wants $100 for pretty much any kind of repair, which I doubt includes an upgrade to Wi-Fi. I've also heard there are places that do trade-ins for refurbished 360s, though I don't know which places do that.

A friend gave it to me so I'm not exactly sure until I talk to him again, but it has a detachable hard-drive; I understand newer versions have theirs built in.

After speaking to the friend who gave it to me, I couldn't get any more specific of an answer from him than it's an older generation -- he bought it from somebody else a few years ago.
