bought it for $5 and absolutely loving it. It's a tower defense, but with really heavy RPG elements, equipping your guys outside of battle, leveling up, etc. read that link and if you like both genres, I think you will be interested.

How's the story and writing to where you're at? Seems like a pretty good buy, but I'm a little hesitant because I don't have much disposable income at the moment.

the story and writing are OK but nothing special. the gameplay is ridiculously addictive though. this is the most I can ever remember being into a tower defense game, I like it more than I liked Defense Grid.

Bought it yesterday and played for about three hours, still feels like a free browser game I'd play on kongregate or something!

Yeah, looking at it alone gives me the impression that agesboy has from playing it. None of the features they mention are unique to the genre, and I'm not even sure the combination of them all hasn't been done before. I'd be all over this if it were free, but since it's not I wish them the best of luck.

yeah see, stuff like that, it seems OK but I've never been able to really get into anything on kongregate, I dont know what it is, this game is a lot deeper than stuff like that imo

this game is extremely shallow compared to Elona Shooter <__<

This one has two equipment slots that linearly affect about four stats (speed, attack power, health, and range I believe, along with some other stats in minor amounts), which are basic in every TD. Boosting is exactly like upgrading towers with the exception that it's completely useless to boost low level heroes beyond a certain point until they get their new skills, which doesn't really bring anything new to the table except an arbitrary limitation. It also leads to hilarity in that a low level frost mage can't actually slow enemies which is the entire point of using one to begin with in every TD. There's no way to meaningfully customize your characters since the skill point system barely matters beyond the first point invested in each skill. I can see why someone who doesn't play a bunch of TD games would like this and I'm having fun with it too, but it doesn't really do anything new or interesting >_>

Elona has multiple party members that work on the same mechanics you do, they just aim and fire slower. Each party member also has their own set of skills that can do anything from causing attackers to receive damage when hitting the walls, percentage chance to do lethal damage, extra experience when headshotting, etc. They can also evolve existing skills and get new ones regularly. The weapon system is like Diablo lite, with each weapon having a bunch of possible different attachments and modifications to about a dozen stats. You also have a ton of ways to spend your money (focusing on new rapidfire weapons and attachments for the main character, building a stable income via chickens, tank attacks to the wall with a repairman and use area of effect skills a lot, etc), ways that are meaningful beyond just increasing attack damage or defense.

There's a lot of dumb games on Kongregate, but there's some great ones out there too! Rebuild's also pretty great if you're looking for something somewhat deeper than the average browser game. I remember a bunch of us on B8 got obsessed for a few days with it back when it came out >_>

I honestly think the most interesting part is setting up your party early on in this game though tbh. Thats what I like about it. Level design is clever, and you have to be smart about where you place people to get the most out of them, especially the archers.

My favorite Kongregate TD is by far Cursed Treasures.
