http://www.mobafire.com/

The guides are mostly written by amateurs and are almost never optimal. But it's very newb friendly.

Eventually you'll want to move onto better things, like

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/League_of_Legends_Wiki

Most of the champions have strategy pages. You can also get detailed info about every item, every stat and how they stack up, how effects work, etc.

and www.solomid.net.

Also: why didn't you ask in the League topic?

Few tips for starters:

-Never autoattack creeps in the beginning. Always try to last hit.
-Pay attention to the map. Do not only rely only on what your partner is doing, you need to pay attention.
-Don't overextend(I.E go far away from your safezone when there's multiple enemies missing)
-Do not Tower Dive unless you're 100% sure you can nab a kill in 1 or two hits.

Didn't know we had a LoL topic <_<. Goes to show how easy it is to tune stuff out here when you aren't interested at the time!

Man I gotta learn all this terminology. Just picked at random for some matches a few days ago and I liked this Master Yi guy, and he was cheap so I bought him. Now I see all these runes and I'm thinking to just skip all that till I'm Level 20 so I can buy up all the top tier ones?

After about 10 matches I seem to prefer going solo, and apparently I picked a good character to do that with!

It's worth getting tier 1 runes since they're so cheap. Not worth buying complete sets for like, every character you play though. But yeah, skip T2.

I'll start posting in the LoL topic soon enough, but just one last question: Who would be a good choice at higher levels for someone who prefers to solo?

I've been subconsciously gravitating towards low.

Although I guess not realizing that there's any difference between and top and low in the first place just goes to show how much I have to figure out here.

Not playing right now, but I'll add ya.

Are any of the lanes good for solo, or is that just a jungle (I'm assuming that means between lanes) thing? It's not like I have any real reason I've been going bottom.

Almost never, but mixing things up works sometimes. Hotshot does some 1v2 botlane Cho'gath fairly regularly and it mostly works out well.

In standard play this is how it goes:

A tanky character which can hold its own and has high sustainability goes top. This is so a jungler doesn't have to constantly worry about that lane and can focus on mid and bot, which are closer to dragon which is a key part of the game.

An AP (Ability Power) champion goes mid, because they tend to scale well with levels and have more of an impact when they themselves go to help out other lanes.

Bottom is usually a support character (Sona/Taric/Soraka/Alistar are the popular ones) and an attack damage ranged carry (Ashe/Caitlyn/Vayne/Graves etc) so that they can farm easier.

Well there's high level play and then there's best in the world play. Although I faced a cho in a big tourney match a few weeks ago and absolutely slaughtered the Cho as Graves with a Soraka support. Not something I'd even mention in a newbie topic.

The typical high level play is to have a solo top lane, a solo mid lane, a 2-man bottom lane and one person "jungling" which means they kill the neutral monsters in between the lanes, what show up as gold skulls on your minimap. They will then attempt to gank the other lanes at opportune times.

The reason the botton lane is chosen for 2v2 is that it is the lane closest to the dragon, the 2nd strongest of the neutral spawns. Killing it grants everyone on your team 190 gold. As a result, control over it is important.

But don't worry about the "meta" team composition / lane setup until you're at least summoner level 15. Most games before then won't even have a jungler, so just work on learning champions and basic mechanics.

OK, so it is teaming me up with same level people, right? I'm only level 6 now.

I've only lost once! Was using that ice bird thing and pushing pretty hard offensively, so maybe that wasn't the right thing with that character.

Oh, so that's what killing those monsters are for? It nets everyone on the team gold?

Only dragon and the strongest monster, Baron Nashor (or just Baron) offer whole team rewards. The others function as stronger regular monsters. However, by killing these, you aren't in the lane and since experience when killing minions is split between the nearby champions there is more experience for a champion in a solo lane. If a champion can gain as much experience in the jungle as they would in a lane, they're increasing the overall experience on their team.

Cheap good junglers that work well

Amumu, Master Yi, Cho Gath, Malphite

Fiddlesticks and Warwick used to be pretty strong but they have fallen off. Armor Yellows is pretty much the only real requirement to jungling these days and maybe like summoner level 12-ish? I wouldn't start jungling yet honestly but I would think about it.

Amumu and Malphite might be a bit tricky for someone new after their first run I think. Master Yi is extremely easy as is Cho Gath.
