I'm not even going to state the obvious. I have to write 400-500 words on that question and I have no idea how to start. I know it's an incredibly short length for a paper... which is probably why I don't really know how to approach it.
It would be easy to just talk about some stereotypes and common characteristics of men, but I don't really want to comment in a completely superficial way. The assignment isn't worth much (it might not be worth anything) but I'm not sure I've ever had a harder time starting an assignment. It's for a class on masculinity if you're interested.
The ability to make rational and irrational decisions apart from instinct, and to analyze his surroundings, all while recognizing that he is, as an individual apart from the rest of the universe?

You have a chance to do a 400-500 word rewrite of Symphony of the Night's opening, and you're complaining?
"What is a man? It's a deceptively complex question that demands an equally complex answer, but if one had to summarize it, the short version might be: a miserable little pile of secrets."
Go on to explain how man is just an idea, how every man is different depending on their company, and how you can never know who anyone truly is. This is a lot easier than some of the stuff I've had to BS in my day.

From: ZaziGuado | #013 It'd be pretty easy to tap into society's expectations of gender and simply denounce them. That provides much space for examples and clarification.
Yeah, the space is the thing that was really bothering me. I gave my ideas with a few short examples and now I only have about 200 words left. I mean if it was an actual essay and I had the time to explore multiple topics it wouldn't be a problem... I just feel that it's hard to really say anything meaningful on the topic with such a small number of words... especially since she wants it to have personal component as well.
