From: FFDragon | #047 I've never once received a shrink wrapped game from Gamestop that wasn't the collector's edition midnight release stuff. It's the entire reason I stopped buying from them. They always remove the wrap from the games as soon as they come in and I have a serious problem with that.
Really.
Man, I am glad I work at one of the good ones too then. That's insane.

From: RyokIes | #045 the only problem i have with my gamestop is that one of the clerks always tries to convince me that kingdom hearts is a good series because when he tried making small talk about it when i bought two of the games for my sister i said it sucked
I too have never seen Gamestop give a copy of a new game out that wasn't shrink wrapped. The two Gamestops I frequent here and the two by my college were always quality-- even the one that was in the run down mall. I seriously have never encountered the issues that people talk about with Gamestop.

When you get it from Gamestop you're getting it the way it was meant to be sold. Only one copy is missing the wrap unless you have a bad store, and the developers don't give a damn about the wrap as long as the contents are fine.

Although I'm a bit surprised that no one has said anything if your games aren't shrink wrapped. If my new game wasn't shrink wrapped, I'd ask the employees what's up. If he told me "Well, they don't come shrink wrapped," then I'd call bull s*** and talk to the manager.
That's just me though!

We've got a Gamestop employee in Pun right here and now saying these issues are not company standards.
Indeed but most people are complaining about the policies and Gamestop as a whole when in fact the company is fine and they either A) Have bad stores or B) Just like to complain.

There's only one store around here that keeps the games behind the counter and that's only because it's very small so they don't have a need to gut every game for display.
My experience on gaming sites is that people just like to hate on Gamestop for various(and dumb) reasons. So once a person tells their negative story/rant everyone has to tell their story and rant about how you should stop going there.

Pretty much. There ARE things worth complaining about with GS, but overall their policies are solid, there just needs to be more protection for developers against the used game industry.

If this was an isolated incident, I'd be like "yeah man Anchorage has two crappy Gamestops." But several people ITT alone (and we all live in different places) have similar stories. I'll take PUN at his word that it isn't company policy but more than a few Gamestops seem to have this problem and it's a non-issue at every other place I buy games at. I have never bought a non-shrinkwrapped "new" game from any other store.
Unless Joyrock wants to argue that our experiences are fake I don't see why we're having a discussion of this at all. Considering this topic started with a post about how someone received a new game case with no game inside, especially.

You're very likely exaggerating on both issues. There are just as many people in here that have had no issues at all. The chain is fine. There are issues like there will be with any chain, but most of you are just bad customers hating on a chain because it's popular.

So having a consistently negative experience at a place is a dumb reason to hate it?
What about that whole fiasko recently with OnLive codes for DX:HR being gutted?

By "constantly negative experience" I'm sure you mean "Constantly whiny customers". I've seen just as much if not more good than bad.
The Onlive fiasco was bad. Admittedly, it didn't really matter since Onlive is bad and nobody cares about it, but regardless the decision was bad. Even then, though, there were justifiable decisions behind it even if they weren't immediately apparent, and they went well out of their way to fix the whole fiasco. After their great efforts to fix it, I'd hardly say anyone can complain about it.

Every DS game I ever bought new from my Gamestop was opened. They would remove the games from the cases and store them separately too. Any PS3 game I've bought has been shrinkwrapped though.

the gamestops in my area are good about new copies. in the rare case that i'm buying the last copy, i just say "oh, okay then i'll just get it somewhere else" and they say "alright, we understand" and i order from amazon.
if gamestop was like the only place that sold video games and they did some of the things they do, it would be a problem. but if you guys have such a big problem with the place, just order from amazon or something and deal with having to wait a couple days to get your instant gratification.

Other people are allowed to care about things you deem trivial. It doesn't make them "whiny customers."

"Oh no we'd be advertising a competing service!" isn't a legitimate reason to gut a product without informing the customer.
