You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

I don't hate him but I do think he's a dumbass and I think it's safe to say that in retrospect, the praise for his earlier works can probably be directed to others that were involved more than to him.

Yup, I have actually used that exact quote to describe Lucas before.

As much as I love Star Wars George Lucas is HIGHLY overrated in his ability to tell a story. If you go back and see what he originally wanted to do with SW it would have been just as awful as the prequels, if not worse.

The original movies forced a lot of restrictions on him and he had a lot of people telling him what he could or couldn't do. With the prequels he was surrounded by nothing but yes men that refused to challenge some of his idiotic ideas or to point out that he was breaking his own canon.

I don't think he's overrated at all. Most people realize that he's terrible at developing a plot on his own and his concept of a love story and good dialogue is just... so god awful.

We should all know that the only reason the originals were so good in the first place was because Lucas didn't have complete ownership of Star Wars back then and he didn't direct those movies. Now that he has full control, not only has he made the prequel trilogy (which speaks for itself) but he's also made all these horrible changes to the original trilogy.

What really pisses me off is that he doesn't give a f*** what fans think. EVERYONE is pissed at him for what he's done, and he's literally just like "whatever they're my movies I can do what I want."

Its odd how common it is for people to discredit past achievements. Star Wars is one of the most influential, legendary movies ever made, he wrote and directed it. He also was heavily involved in some other excellent films, he's done some great stuff. Definitely talented.

Now, sure he's made very bad movies in the past decade or two, and his decisions to keep tinkering with and not release a nice restored print of the original trilogy isn't fun. But he was a pretty legendary filmmaker in the 70s and 80s.

Much like when a great band just doesn't put out great albums anymore, it happens.

Yeah, of course I appreciate that he existed and brought Star Wars to life, but again...

Okay dokey. The Dark Knight is great, but I don't really find that quote particularly profound.

Take Lemmy, that guy is still the hero, and he's in his 60s.

As much has I hate what he's done with the prequels and the changes to the OT, I can't hate the man. He still did some amazing work in the past, even if he's gone off the deep end now.

His utter refusal to acknowledge that the EU exists almost bothers me more than anything else. He won't allow any games or shows made that take place after RotJ, since he wants to focus on the Clone Wars. Bioware gets around this by going way back in the past, but I want an New Jedi Order game, dammit. If I could get Battlefront 3 with the Yuuzhan Vong as a playable army I'd be in heaven.

Agreed. Or any game featuring Luke as a Force god would be awesome.

When I say I hate him, I mean I hate what he's become. He's pretty much a betrayal of what he started off as. I feel like maybe he's just a sell out or something. It's really disappointing because he had so much potential to be a living legend. He just made so many terrible ass choices that it's really hard to have any respect left for him. I will always respect the man he used to be though, the one who initially brought us the amazing universe of Star Wars.
