Because that'd be awful. While it might be funny to see just Epona and Boko or something, half the bracket would have such compelling characters as Toadsworth, Queen Bee, Metroid, Kraid, Adam Malkovich, Dark Link, Navi, Waddle Dee, Prince Fluff, Tiny Kong, Marlboro, Cid (FF7), Cid (FF4), Cid (FF5), Cid (FFT), Goblin, Relm, Absolute Virtue, and a few assorted NPC Blitzball players. Oh and 20 different Pokémon of no meaningful power.

Every contest comes down to the same exact choice. It just gets more and more boring every year.
