Pokemon games are similar to each other that is true.But there are huge differences between each generation.Just play one and then play the other.It is not like Sports games or FPS games where they are exactly the same game with an updated roster/new weapons.

To be fair, Red and Blue are a rivalry from before Pokemon became the epitome of making more of the same for money.
