That's hardly the most wonky thing that happened in the End of Time, to be honest!
Season five's my favourite season, insert subtle peer pressure to make you feel the same here. Do you know / care about the details of the behind the scenes stuff at this point? Basically not only David Tennant left at the end of the specials.

I heard that the whole production team left. Was it not like, a friendly leaving thing? I figured that Tennant would just be like "Okay, time to let someone else share this wonderful character."
Anyway, watching S5E1 right now. So much for Martha being the most attractive companion!

Basically yeah, multiple people left all at once, including head writer Russell T Davies. Pretty sure it was amicable. Stephen Moffat took over as head writer for Season 5 (and onwards). Moffat wrote a few of the episodes in the RTD era, probably most noticeably The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances and Blink. But that's why the ending of The End Of Time was particularly sentimental, because it was the end of an era beyond Tennant's run as the Doctor. Some people (myself included) didn't like that ending for a number of reasons, others think it was one of the most emotional moments of the new series to date.
Fortunately, outside of a vocal minority most people regard Moffat very highly, so rest assured the show's in good hands going forward!

6 is an uneven season, especially the first half, but it finds its voice towards the end and you can't say too many bad things about a season with a NEIL GAIMAN episode.

Yeah, S6 is filled with highs and lows, especially compared to S5. I mean, I enjoyed all of it, that's the thing with Who, I just take it for what it is. When comparing it to S5 I don't think S5 has a really weak episode. Its lesser episodes aren't really that bad and all have something to offer.
Torchwood? If you don't like it at first at least it leads into Children of Earth which is one of the greatest things ever, or at least in the Whoverse.

torchwood is alright. certainly a bit lesser in some regards but i still found it mostly watchable, and the children of earth thing is preeeeetty awesome. the 4th season is decent too...
