I made a topic the other day asking what the best Crash game was, but it seems that Jak & Daxter is also made by Naughty Dog. Why all the interest in Playstation platformers? I'm just looking for a good PS platoforming series to get into.
So, which series would you say is better, and what is the best game from both series (I'm not too concerned about going in chronological order)?
Also, is it true that Jak & Daxter turned into a more action-oriented series as it went on?

This is here so that I can say something in all caps if I want.
Crash is a better series. Jak & Daxter 1 is good, then the series transforms into something completely different for 2 and 3 that likely isn't up your alley.
Or, go with the original Spyro trilogy and Ratchet & Clank. Insomniac rocks.

Jak 1 is pretty much a typical SM64 ish platformer with collectibles that was common a generation back.
Jak 2 adds a bunch of GRIMDARK and guns and GTA esque hub between levels where you jack hover bikes to drive to the next level. It's also a bit longer and harder.
Jak 3 is pretty much the same thing but with more emphasis on vehicles/racing/vehicle combat and cutting the hub size like, in half (since a lot of people complained it was dead space just to extend the length of the game, probably). Though it felt a lot shorter and easier than the second too.

Jak and Daxter series is definitely better than the Crash Bandicoot series but the 2nd and 3rd ones aren't exactly typical platformers. If that's what you're looking for, don't play them.
The Ratchet series is definitely better than both of those. Make sure you play them in order (The controls get *significantly* better and the gameplay changes a fair deal from R&C1 to Going Commando), and make sure that you do in fact play Deadlocked, because it's a pretty f***ing good game.

I highly recommend the Crash and Spyro franchises. Stick with the PSX games for the most part (except Crash Bash) and maybe Crash:WOC and CNK. Pretty much every other game isn't worth checking out. I never played the Jack or Ratchet games (Working on the later).
