I was wondering when something like this was going to happen. I mean there pretty much had to be someone else who was curious about the reaction of the uncharted fanbase to an actual low score, when they were already going crazy when it got an 8.
kekeke Apparently, That is included in the metascore rating. And now neogaf's general uncharted discussion is raging.
This is why we need to use Gamerankings as our standard; it has less crap than Metacritic.
Yeah, that article just seems to be a troll review. I prefer Gamerankings because they are able to differentiate reviews(for the most part anyway). Hell, I think it was a couple years ago when they started doing that too. I remember them going back and removing a ton of reviews.
The fuzzy mechanics also hamper the games superfluous multiplayer, which gamers will likely flock to for a few nights before returning to the more reliable confines of Black Ops and Halo.
No idea what they're talking about with 'fuzzy mechanics.' U3's shooting feels much better and more polished than U2. Enemies have also never taken multiple headshots to take down, unless they had head protection.
Gunplay has increased significantly with each release. There's nothing twitchy about it.
"bad guys still require three or four shotgun blasts to the head before theyre deterred"
Generic enemies have always required one headshot with a normal gun to take down. Armoured enemies take more because, well, they're armoured.
"Impressive setpieces punctuate the gamemost memorably, Drake must escape from a sinking ocean liner. Yet these moments somehow always feel shoehorned into the experience, as if developer Naughty Dog concocted them in advance, then built the rest of the game around them."
They are. Naughty Dog goes into each game thinking of some crazy way to program a scene they've planned. That's how games are made. This isn't an inherently bad thing either, and the one negative comment made regarding this standard policy -- that it feels 'shoehorned' in -- is not a valid point because the reviewer never gives an explains his point. "Here's an event, it feels out of place" is an incomplete thought.
"Much would be forgiven if the gameplay werent so woefully faulty. Creeping up on a goon for a stealth kill can result in Drake inadvertently performing a somersaultta-dah!into the goons backside."
no it can't. these two moves are mapped to different buttons, and always have been.

Two years after release, more people play Uncharted 2 regularly than several thriving games on Steam, like Team Fortress 2 or the aformentioned Black Ops.
Eurogamer's conclusion/criticism about games that are super heavy on the 'experience' at the expense of the 'play' (like they claim Uncharted 3 is and like- by my own admission- GOD OF WAR 1 is***) is wonderfully thought out and presented and the only reason it's been labeled 'controversial' has nothing to do with the review itself and everything to do with the sad state of game consumers who have been so effectively conditioned by a number of the gaming press/gaming PR machines that these gamers leap to a title's defense-not that this gem of a game needs defending- without even being open to the reviewer's criticism (be it valid or not). That's tragic. What's even more tragic is I would argue the games medium itself has been damaged by this practice. Irrevocably? No. But it has taken its toll for sure.
you know, I think the issue with UC3 is less that it's hyper-scripted and more that we already did this with Uncharted 2 and it feels a lot more obvious now. I guess there's only so far you can push the scripted sequences before they just feel like they're the same scene painted up in different ways.
For this review, certainly -- it's poor by any metric. I don't know enough about the their site to say one way or another, as a whole. If the U3 review is any indication, though...
Sessler's review was gold. Morgan literally tried to cover her own ass and specifically point out Adam had everything to do with the review and she didn't.
I can't say I know Tom Chick's work, but some people just don't like Uncharted. I can't say I understand where that comes from, but there are plenty of people who probably have the same thoughts as that review. I disagree with it in its entirety, but what can you do.

I get not liking Uncharted, but it's all a little too convenient. Any problems he has with the game are at the very least massively exaggerated - or, more cynically, he's completely made them up - and it all culminates in a big bold 4/10 at the end. Troll review and a desperate search for hits. It's like tranny said, a race to the bottom, everyone trying to undercut each other.

I mean come on dude, Black Ops on STEAM. Whenever I played UC2 online, it was always like 40,000 some daily players, which is fine 2 years after release, but nothing terribly special, unless the matchmaking is that bad, we couldn't even play a lot of the playlists because simply no one was playing them. I just find it hard to believe that TF2 doesn't manage more than 40,000 daily, considering it is F2P, beating out Black Ops on STEAM isn't really a big deal.
I'm not saying I even agree with the review, but this was a poor point imo, as the lack of players on UC2 online when I got it always kinda sucked.

omg did u red text from last night dats so me LMAO : ) im not a slut i jus liek 2 haev fun LOL : )
U2 always had about 50-60k worth of daily players, which is about 30k short of the total players of the Subway beta. I think U2 was plenty active, especially for a game its age, when new multiplayer experiences are a dime a dozen. There's something to be said for that, though I have no idea what the daily players are for TF2 or Black Ops.

his point is that the multiplayer is superfluous and will most likely dry up after a few weeks. i countered with two games people consider have dedicated, if not thriving, player bases. both those games have less daily players than Uncharted 2. I'm not arguing that Uncharted 3 is one of the most-played games out there: it's not. I'm just pointing out that it's not as fleeting as the reviewer suggests.
the problem with UC2's playlist is that it never stated how many players where in a match type. It was never that difficult to find a match, but it was difficult to find one in a mode you wanted. Damn Lab.
From: ZFS | #080 here's something to be said for that, though I have no idea what the daily players are for TF2 or Black Ops.
50k and 20k, usually. somehow counterstrike source is still the most active.

really good for tv criticism, sometimes good for music and movie features, but forgettable in other areas.

I actually think many of the complaints leveled at UC3 are fair (or at least they were in UC2). climbing and platforming that is a straight line, puzzles that aren't very clever or fun, a game with absolutely no room for deviation thanks to scripted sequences. but even with those complaints, it's silly to go much lower than a 7.5 or an 8 for a game that's such a technical marvel.
