This is exactly how I came to my conclusion.

EDIT: Wait, shouldn't it be 99 million?

1000000(.99) - .01x = 0
x = 99000000

Which means that my life would need to be worth $99 million for me to break even.

I'd do it once. There's already tons of crazy stuff that could possibly kill you that you don't even think about. 1% is extremely good odds for something that will set you up for life (as long as my investing ability protected it against inflation, which I'm fairly confident it would).

That's not exactly accurate. That list is actually just a ratio of how many people die of each cause to total deaths. Think about it, you can kill yourself doing many activities that would give you 1 to 1 odds that don't make that list.
