Twilight Princess had alot of 10/10 at first,too

I'm well aware! I'm not getting too hyped, you would expect the magazine who had the rights to post the first review to give the game a high score to that people will buy the magazine.

yeah, professional reviews are worthless, remember that you literally can't give a zelda game a TERRIBLE rating like 8.8 or the fan backlash will be enough to get you fired.

I still don't think that what happened for TP will happen with SS in regards to reviews. The hype isn't nearly as strong and over the last 5 the series has probably dropped a little in the eyes of fans and critics. People aren't expecting BEST GAME EVAR like they were with TP

Anyway here's a bit from the review:


"There are about 35 hours to be spent on Skyward Sword's main quest, and at least double that if you plan on dipping into the game's plentiful side-quests, collecting all of the insects, upgrading all of the items, discovering the locations of the Goddess Cubes and exploring the world."

That's no 50-100 hours, an is actually shorter than TP. And insect collecting is back augh

If it scores around TP's average, I'll probably only read the worst reviews. It'll be interesting to see how the gaming media receives this game after, as you said, the series has lost a bit of its luster.

On a first run? Sure it did. Maybe you're just a fast gamer, but I remember topics back in 2006-2007, and most posters on the TP board took over 40 hours to beat it. I still remember it taking me about 43-44 to complete the main quest and approx. 55 to 100% the game. Heck, my third TP run completed a couple months ago took me a good 33 hours to 100%, and I was using a walkthrough for the Piece of Hearts and Poe Souls.

I'd put it closer to 30 but even so, people were saying like 80 hours and ****, SS having a lower estimate to me just implies that it's a more realistic estimate, not that the game is significantly shorter necessarily

The important thing isn't the score itself, but the fact that it's A) the highest score the magazine has given, even higher than other AAA Nintendo titles, and B) outright calls the game the best Zelda ever. They didn't do THAT for Twilight Princess (and only a couple of publications did).

Also, 35x2=70, which fits into the 50-100 range.

EDIT: And Twilight Princess took me almost exactly 50 hours to beat, doing a little bit of optional content (but not much).

(This is with absolutely no side content, pretty much. I was rushing through it in University.)

My first run of TP was probably 50-60 hours without even trying to collect everything. My time is always slower than most. Apparently people don't like just walking around and looking and stuff.

Anyway, as much as I understand the need for people to look at review scores, I can't understand the point. No console Zelda is going to get below an 8, regardless of how average it might be. Skyward Sword actually does look good, but seriously. People completely flipped out when Twilight Princess was given an amazing score, which ended up being far better than it deserved.

This. Reviewers call Xenoblade a 60-hour game, but I spent 140 hours on the main story alone, and 100 more on the sidequests and stuff. If they say Skyward Sword takes 35 hours, I bet the more serious gamers among us will at least take double that.

I don't know where people get this "oh everybody hates Twilight Princess now" idea from. Most reviewers still hold the game in high regard today. The game still finds its way to the lists of th best games on the Wii or of the current generation or whatever. Is it that hard to understand that whiny fans aren't an accurate representation of everyone else?

Keep in mind that Skyward Sword also has a Master Quest, which probably accounts for the "50-100" hour range Nintendo gave.

And yeah, I don't think TP took me 40 hours just for the main game, but I'd have to check my save file.

Did it have some problems? yeah,sure
Was it a good solid game? yes,it was

I can't finish it though because I always take all heart pieces etc before the final dungeon,but collecting stuff in this game is so boring and slow that I didn't play this game for half a year now...but aside from that,I enjoyed it

Considering these people gave pretty much the exact same amount of praise to TP, I'm taking this review with a massive grain a salt.

I don't believe so, but that's not particularly important. Any place that specializes in Nintendo products, like a Nintendo magazine, is more than likely going to lavishly praise a new game in one of Nintendo's best series. It's like OPM giving Uncharted 3 a 10.

Eh, this board is always skeptical of reviews.

But I agree the first review usually doesn't mean too much because it's usually lavished with some of the highest praises.
