I expected hell of a job but I got one of the most enjoyable job I ever had. The people are all freaking nice to me, some of them even know my name now even if it's only been 2 weeks and a half. I've started learning the names of some customers too, like this old Korean War veteran, he's funny as hell and today he showed me all his medals, this guy seriously had an eventful life ! Heck, I even be tipped ! I never expected to be tipped working there but I am so I can't complain, pays for my laundry ! Sure I get some grumpy customers but they're angry against the store or my boss, so I don't really care since I'm not the victim of their venom !
Oh and the milfs, oh god the milfs. All of them have delicious accents too, it's like a dream.
Grocery stores are not that bad depending on what department you get put in. About five years ago I worked in the Deli department at my local store, and I thought it was pretty horrible. However, if I would have gotten Produce or Dairy I don't think it would have been bad at all.
For as much as I complained about working the register it really wasn't all that bad. I despised the unnecessary hate I would sometimes receive and it would take me like two customers to bounce back into a chipper mood again.
And I was tipped once in my 8 month run. It was pretty much the best day ever.
EDIT: I worked at Trader Joe's so it was pretty much mostly happy all the time.

Customers being nice to you already separates you from the average retail experience <_< I remember my first retail job, I wasn't even halfway through my training shift before I'd had a customer come over to yell at me for looking happy.

Today I was reading some magazine since it was completely dead, read a pretty long article and when I looked up there was a lady waiting in front of me, I asked her why she didn't told me she was there so I could scan her stuff and all.
If I wouldn't be allowed to read when I'm not doing anything I wouldn't like it as much.
Well I'm not but I know the cameras blind spots and the people I work with don't care and are not in positions of superiority anyway (I do evening shifts, by then managers are gone).

Don't know ! In my 3 weeks there I've only seen one angry person, and since it made me laugh my ass off I wouldn't consider that a bad experience.
I worked in the produce section of Wal-Mart and it was honestly a really great job. Dealing with customers was never too much of a hassle because in produce you either tell them where to find it, or tell them you don't have it. There is really no room for debate. I couldn't imagine being a cashier though... those people always looked like they were having a terrible time.
As with most things... I think a job is as fun/interesting as the people you're working with. Working with cool people around your age that you can talk to in a casual way can make pretty much any job tolerable.
But I think you're just enjoying it so much because you're new. If you still feel this way after a year, I'll be truly surprised.
The person I enjoy the most working with atm is an old English dude, he's been working there for a while and is super nice and don't really care if we're doing stuff we're not supposed to do, like he told me where to hide from the cameras so I could read, he always try to close as soon as possible so we can leave early.
