http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/10/04/the-simpsons-money-dispute-may-shut-down-fox-tv-s-long-running-hit.html

Basically, it comes down to this: The main voices for the Simpsons make a solid $8 million a year, but are entitled to none of the show's annual profits from merchandising, box sets, and the like. In negotiations, they suggested a 30% pay cut in exchange for a small portion of the back-end profits.

Fox shot back with "either accept a 45% pay cut or we cancel the show".

I'm not sure. It sounds like everything is getting pay cuts, and while the show isn't the big ratings draw it was, it still has MASSIVE earnings.

They weren't the first, negotiations had been going for awhile, but this ultimatum was a direct response to their suggestion.

The Simpsons completely betrayed itself and its fans somewhere around season 12-13 or so.

It deserves a quick death and many marathons of the single digit seasons

I'm reporting it as the article states it. Your beef is with them. And there's nothing particularly unlikely with how the article states things went down.

The Simpsons should end with Walter White (live action and played by Bryan Cranston, not some animated four-finger bull****) putting a bullet through Homer's brain. This damn show has gone on at least ten seasons too long, and I don't give a FLYING RAT PISS if these last few seasons have sucked slightly less ass than the ones before it.

First off, it was in negotiations. They were not suggesting "hey, lets get paid less" they were suggesting "hey, this is something we would find acceptable".

I still love the Simpsons. It's still their best show on Sunday, I don't even want to imagine how much it would suck if this is how it ended.

It's not uncommon at all for an actor to take a smaller guaranteed salary in exchange for a piece of the profits the show will earn in syndication or merchandise. For example, Jon Cryer from Two and A Half Men is taking a far smaller salary for this year than Ashton Kutcher, who is new to the show. But unlike Ashton, he's expected to make many times what Ashton is going to get in his new deal from what the show will rake in from syndication later on.

The only reason to keep The Simpsons going is so that it can remain the cartoon with the top number of episodes. As crappy as it's been lately, letting some technicality like current Scooby or Seth McFarline's Flintstones top it in number is stupid. No I don't want to hear about how Scooby Mystery Inc or whatever the new show is called is good.

Also, it's easy to forget, but the Simpson's is the only thing holding back the MacFarlane power-hour-and-a-half from literally owning FOX Sunday nights.

If the show were canceled, it would likely be picked up by either Adult Swim or CC, since they've already handled Futurama's revival with class. FOX wouldn't be punishing anyone except for themselves.

Fox would have to be willing to sell it to someone, which AS and CC couldn't afford.

Why would they give up rights? Wasn't there a topic less than a week ago that said they were considering making a 24/7 Simpson's Network? Selling their biggest cash cow for a fraction of what it's worth seems pretty counterproductive since they could profit off it for decades to come.

No wonder our society is so decadent.

They're making that money for one of the biggest shows in the world, which they have been doing for over 20 years. It's fairly reasonable.

You want to complain at something, look at how much people get paid to do movies.

I guess so, but unless you can get some good imitators, it won't be the same (not that it is these days, but Groening seems to think it is, so whatever). Nobody watches Pokemon for the VAs, the most interesting thing about the series are the Pokemon. If Ash changes VAs, it can be attributed to puberty or something. If Homer's voice just randomly changes after 20 years the people who actually like newer episodes won't be pleased.
