Zero's alternate colour schemes were announced today, and his blue X palette swap has been removed, making it pretty likely it returns either as an X costume for Zero's alternate outfit, or as X himself as new character DLC. More likely to be the former though.
To expand on the theory, every character is getting an alternate outfit this time around, as opposed to just Ryu, Chris, Dante, Captain America, Iron Man and Thor, and it hasn't gone unnoticed that palette swaps that have been removed are very similar in colour to likely alt outfits for said characters.

But yeah, awesome news. The possibility of getting some X into a fightan makes me pretty hype!

I don't care about this one way or the other, but I'm still waiting for a reasonable reason for Mega Man/X's omission. I suppose one can say that Ryu effectively replaced him as Capcom's premiere icon in 2009, but Mega Man still held that mantle for over 20 years. I can at least understand saving him for future DLC, greedy and messed up as that may be, but what other reason could they have?

The white armour doesn't change anything really. Alternate outfits themselves don't have palette swaps, so the fact that the blue swap is gone is the important part. They have no reason to remove it unless it's reappearing in some other form.

The hubbub about this has left me apathetic, not because Megaman's fanbase have been unbearable the past year, but Im 100% sure Both Original and Volnutt would've sucked in MvC3, and prolly would've been ignored.

MvC MegaMan was basically a rush job and CapCom has said as much before (and he sorta sucked in MvC2 IIRC). The problem boils down to choices: you have so many that, aside from maybe one or two major standouts (Metal Blade) there's no consensus on what MegaMan SHOULD be like. Whatever CapCom could have released would have drawn disappointment/outrage from the fanbase because 'key' weapons would have been skipped, not to mention the way the feel and design would have to be radically different either from every other MvC3 character or the original franchise to juggle the various weapons around. It wasn't worth it to spend so much time on him when there was a very strict deadline that required the culling of a billion features to begin with.

You cant honestly tell me that they couldn't have made a MegaMan who played mostly like Arthur and had most people be happy with it. The idea they excluded MM to PREVENT outrage is pretty silly.

Didn't they remove ALL the old palette swaps? At least looking at Doom and Zero from that link, none of their old colors are back.

Agreed. Ryu isn't that great, but I didn't see any outrage cuz at least he's in the game. I do still expect to see some version of Mega Man as DLC. Of all the Japanese third party devs this generation, Capcom has been the most successful (on the console front, anyway). I've never gotten the impression that they're as stupid as Square, just that they're greedy and nickle-and-dime like a motha. The former would imply no Mega Man at all; the latter would imply keeping your company's biggest character ever for DLC.

Most of them so far have returned, although the odd one has made way for something more fitting or 'better'. e.g. I don't mind Wesker losing his Vergil colours if it means he gets that awesome M.Bison swap in return.

Zero definitely had Bass and Axl colors last time.
The one puzzling thing to me is that his MMZero form got a color set, when that seemed like the obvious choice for his alternate DLC costume.
Could also be plain old Classic Mega Man making an appearance rather than X since their colors are pretty much exactly the same. Then they'd have a character from Classic, X/Zero, and Legends
