I may be an outlier considering that my gaming experience right now is playing SSB64 with my dormmates

but still, this is almost certainly an "only on gfaqs" thing.

It probably has to do with the best games being single player

I find this to be a strange notion. I never play video games with other people, to me it is a solitary activity....but I spend time with my friends all the time, we just don't play video games.

When I was still in school, I used to play games with others all the time. Now that I'm out of school and I and my friends have gone our "separate ways" as it were and we don't get together very much anymore, I usually end up playing games alone now.

I think it just comes with RPGs being abnormally popular here! It is true though that it's likely you'd get a pretty different result on a site not so RPG-heavy as here. As for me, since RPGs are my favorite genre, it's kind of a "by default" thing. A few years back when I played WoW it might have been a different story, but I usually solo'd or stayed in Alterac Valley anyway so I'm not sure how that'd "count."

yeah the RPG thing is definitely a reason. zeldas and FFs being the favorite games of this site certainly contribute.

playing any online game by yourself still counts as playing alone. Hell, even when I play Reach online I'd call that playing alone.

When I was playing solo to level or for whatever reason, absolutely. But battlegrounds are a bit trickier. Alterac Valley (or any battleground) isn't exactly a solo experience. Although, with the general lack of coordination on most teams it can certainly feel like one.

You've got to have hobbies you partake in during your alone time. Whether it's reading or playing video games or whatever.

That's not being anti-social.

my point is that you're playing the game in a room by yourself, even if other people are playing from other rooms.

Though sometimes I LAN for DotA with my college friends.

I don't play video games with my friends mostly because we barely share the same interests. That said, I still play a lot of multiplayer games with people I know from the internet, and the only games I truly play "alone" are games with no multiplayer options.

It's a bit sad to see gaming go this way. In the 90s, gaming was all about the awesome local multiplayer, with Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Tekken, Goldeneye, Mario Party and so on. Today, most multiplayer gaming is dull online shooters.

Me and my friends are a happy exception though. All my multiplayer gaming is with people in the same room - even if it's an online game like League of Legends. You just don't get the same kind of fun across Skype.
