It happened in the Chapter 4-4 tower (the one you have to ascend right before the Salazar fight). Remember the area with two zealots who pull a switch that sends huge barrels rolling your way? When you reach it, a handful of zealots enter from the door underneath you. I usually kill them with those same barrels, but this time, I ran down there and tappatappatappa with the Chicago Typewriter. While I stupidly can't be sure, I think the first guy I killed on my way down gave me 19,800 pesetas. I accidentally closed the text box before I could be sure, but that's the number I thought I saw, and it looked like it had one more digit than the usual money drop amounts. I had checked my money total just a minute or two before (it was just a hair under 400,000), but it was now 420,000. Inexplicable, because I didn't beat any bosses, midbosses, or even encounter a merchant.
This is a big deal. Know why? Cuz RE4 is a big deal. Every inch of this game has been explored by a zillion people, but I've never seen or heard about anything like this happening. Low-tier enemies never really drop more than 3,000 PTAS, and usually under 2,000. The fact that one would drop 19,800 is crazy, because only one non-boss enemy (Iron Maidens) drop more. Hell, only four bosses in the whole game drop more.
Has this happened to anyone before?

Never gotten more than 5k other than gold bars that drop from specific enemies, but I just got 4700 off an enemy this evening on the PS3 version. 5 digits from a regular enemy does seem kind of ludicrous.
Ganado(and the dogs too, I think) have a .03% chance of dropping 9900 pesetas or 19,800 peseta. I've played RE4 a f*** ton so it's happened to me like over 20 times, but it's pretty rare, yes.
The 9900 one even applies to barrels as well

So you have roughly a 1/3000 chance. If those are the odds, then I was overdue! Pretty sure I've killed a lot more than 3000 Ganados during my playthroughs.
Still pretty crazy!

But I am pretty sure 19,800 is the max. I've seen TASes of this game where they would get 19,800 drops. If it was a TAS, there would be no reason not to aim higher than that if it was possible. It's also the highest I've ever gotten

Cool. If you've gotten 19,800 that many times, then anything rarer would probably require a one-in-several-tens-of-thousands chance. Very doubtful. 19,800 is also the biggest number I've seen that people specifically remember (anyone claiming bigger usually says "I think once I got 20 something thousand").
