i haven't seen it yet but saw it had more than 3 stars on his site...is that really that bad that it needed an apology...i guess anything less than 4.7 is sucky apparently...
Basically what Wazzup said. The whole thing was kinda ear grating, the schtick got really old really quickly. LP it to make jokes the whole through, or something like that? Sure. You don't even have to like the game. But just playing a game poorly and going "AGHWTF" over and over again is pretty damn pointless (and lazy).

It was legitimately bad. It took Nostalgia Critic (good) and Let's Play (good) and made something crappy which made it seem worse. It would be like if they did a crossover of two of your favorite things and it turned out below average. You'd think it was one of the worst things ever.
How can anyone possibly even think that video was "bad"? The guy screamed like an idiot for half an hour or whatever and called it a video. Nothing funny, nothing informative, it was just stupid and painful to watch.

I'm seriously not trying to defend him here but I'm just trying to understand
also, what kind of game review\lets play does everyone here enjoy more?
Informative, explaining the mechanics of the game, and talking about different aspects about the gameplay and\or story without spoiling too much while maybe occasionally making a joke or two (like HVGN)
or a semi playthrough where they comment and riff on things they see while they play it and finish the game and offering their thoughts afterwards (kinda like AVGN and Spoony?)
I tend more towards the comedic LP's. A good, informative one is nice too, but my favorites are all stuff like Kazz on Facade or pokecapn on Sonic or whatshisface on Barbie with his wisdom teeth out.

He's usually not too good, but I could only watch a few minutes of that Let's Play. The Nostalgia Critic is just not a great internet personality; he's way too loud, comes across as pompous and elitist, and has a terribly grating voice. It's hard for me to believe that this guy is #2 behind the AVGN in terms of internet geek fandom.

Depends on the game. If I have an interest but haven't played, the informative type. If I have no interest in the game or have played it, the riffers. In neither case do I want a video of the equivalent of one of my friends playing a game and just being frustrated the whole time. The whole thing felt like it was unscripted, he never played the game before, and did one take. It's a little more "genuine" I guess, but it's not very entertaining.
The main thing was that he didn't even attempt jokes. He just yelled and screamed the entire time. Yelling and screaming constantly does not make for a good Let's Play. People expected it to be... watchable, really. It was especially sad because of how lazy it was too. I don't see how anyone could have liked it at all. He didn't do anything funny. He just sucked at the game and screamed mindlessly. He needs to stick with his movie reviews, because anything he tries to extend out to is... bad. See: those crossovers and any of his short skits.
And yes, MeccaPrime is a top tier LPer. I highly recommend him. He's just started Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past!

It is? Whenever I watch a standard NC video, it seems like he's offering some level of analysis about the subject, rather than screaming like an entire maniac the entire time.
The Let's Play was JUST the screaming. Nothing else. Nothing. No level of analysis about what's going on. Nothing interesting. It was just him screaming for half an hour.

Well, first of all I don't think that was like his usual videos at all. He didn't make jokes he just yelled at the screen.
Second of all, keep in mind that the fact he made an LP attracted new viewers who never watched him before(like Retsupurae). Their reaction was then "...what the f*** is this?"
Basically, people didn't find him funny and the video exposed him to a lot of new people. Plus, his video was worse than usual. That...wasn't a very good combination. So yeah, that's why people reacted so badly to it. For one, it brought new people to him who weren't used to him and for two it was just terrible.
