In the opening of Red Alert, Einstein kills Hitler, making them rivals by the context of the contest. They are also historical characters, which fit with the rules. So they should be eligible for the contest, but I just want to clarify with you if they are or not.

Message From GameFAQs on 09/26/2011

GameSpot already did it.

Its vague, but I guess he's saying that he won't take joke characters that Gamespot had? Anyways, this contest is gonna be so boring.

Yeah.

No Link. No Mario. No Gordon Freeman. No Samus. No Cloud. No Luigi. They were in a Gamespot contest, and that taint has forever made them ineligible.

This was always a bit of a shaky nom, anyway. There's also the whole "Hitler only exists for 5 seconds in a cutscene".

That said, if either of these were used as reasons, we'd probably just switch our noms to Einstein vs Stalin, which I'm told is a fairly legit rivalry.

Very little of the success of those things could be attributed to 4chan or other outside websites basically dictating the end result.

That is what Bacon doesn't want more than anything else. GameSpot became 4chan's contest. He wants GameFAQs' contest to remain the will of the people who actually frequent this site.

Ever heard about the tyranny of the majority?

Outside influence is the most important thing to a fresh and interesting contest. GameFAQs isn't gaining steam these days. The same people that were hear last year are likely still here and few new users have come to replace those that have left. If we base the contest solely on our tastes, then we should pretty much give up now since we all know that Link and his ball-and-chain are making the finals, and likely winning the entire contest.

A good many people likely came to the site to vote for L Block, and then stuck around and voted on other matches. Its like how in the original contest, after Penny Arcade made that comic about it, the votes went up since that original comic was basically just a rally. The whole point of these contests is to draw people to the site, and L Block did that, so without L Block, that contest wouldn't have been as popular.

As much as I'd hate to say it: No. I'm objectively correct.

If only GameFAQs users were allowed to vote, there would be absolutely no variation in character performances. If there are, they only change over the course of a few years, not from contest to contest.

I mean, if you're cool with Link and friend tearing through the entire bracket, then whatever. All I know is I'm kind of sick of it, especially when we can't even have the nominations we want.

I would rather Link/Ganon not win, but their matches only take up a small percentage of the contest to begin with. I'm a heck of a lot more interested to see who wins between X/Zero and Solid/Liquid than I am to see if other sites can rally Einstein/Hitler to victory.

Honestly, I would rather Link/Ganon win than Einstein/Hitler win.

If only GameFAQs users were allowed to vote, there would be absolutely no variation in character performances. If there are, they only change over the course of a few years, not from contest to contest.

Also, this is factually incorrect.

I'm just going to accept the fact that you can't accept anyone looking at things differently than you do.

Which I knew long before this topic anyway. I'm just saying.

I find a lot more fun in these contests than "Whoa look Einstein/Hitler is actually winning the contest that's so funny!"

I understand a lot of people want that, but I don't. I love watching trends, paying attention to individual matches, analyzing results, making predictions, number-crunching, etc. I pay attention to a lot more than the end result, so as such, I don't look at a contest like a flowchart and go:

Great Contest <------ No <------ Did Link Win? ------> Yes -------> Bad Contest

Again, I know a lot of people aren't like me, but "legitimate" results are a lot more satisfying to me because I can actually draw something out of the result, which is what I care about.

So you'd rather have the "legitimate results" forever, meaning that nobody can ever beat Link. I know I know, its the journey, not the destination, but I just wish that journey was a bit more eventful as well, since most of the top characters we know exactly where they stand, since theres little variance. Most of the tougher matches are for characters we don't know much about due to either being new or not having many matches before.

Its kinda sad when I actually enjoy the early rounds more than the later rounds, which is the opposite of how these kinds of contests should go.

Yeah, I thought about it back in 2008 when I said I didn't want 4-ways to come back.

Finding out who this site would actually pick in a match between two big opponents is a lot more interesting to me than seeing if the internet can rally L-Block to victory.
