It's not cheap, but it helps out a lot if you have friends that are into it.

I started playing a few weeks ago; my new roommates got me into it. But yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. I like playing the game but do not want to invest the time and mostly money in buying my own stuff. <_<

My best friend is into YuGiOh and he spent a ton of money on cards this past month. I'll stick to being addicted to video games and comics...

Too expensive if you plan on building decks for tournaments and stuff. If you're drafting every so often or just build decks for casual play, it's not too bad.

I enjoy the Duel of the Planeswalker games, they're on XBL, PSN, and Steam. You do have to unlock the decks by playing through the campaign (along with unlocking extra cards), but there's 10-12 decks in all. They all have a theme (red burn deck, black vampire deck, etc.), so it's not just an assortment of cards. For $10 It's a good way to get into magic if you're only interested in playing and getting a feel for the game.

I anti-recommend the Duel of the Planeswalker >_>. I guess it's worth what it's worth, but it still gets boring awfully fast. For me, at least, I get the most fun out of being able to create and use my own deck. Sure, you can customize the DotP decks a little, but it's so limiting.

I didn't know those existed, but apparently 2012 is $5 on Steam.

Yeah, this was the reason I stopped playing. Really just too hard to keep up with all the expansions. =/

But I still have all my old cards and I really look forward to teaching my daughter how to play someday. ^_^

I will say I would love to do another sealed deck tournament sometime, though I have no idea about any of the rule changes over the past 5-6 years or so. *sigh*

Duel of the Planeswalkers is great for a new player to learn the tactics of the game. It's totally worth $10, in spite of its stupid limitations.

If you can, get it for the 360 since that one has better multi-player functionality.

Customizable or not, the decks they use or full of vanilla cards and are boring as hell to use.
