The animations seem inconsistent. Some were smooth, others weren't. But hey, it's an MMO, I doubt people care.

If there were a single MMO I'd actually play it'd be this one. I doubt our laptop will run it though.

If it does, though, yeah, esurio will play it and I'll probably hijack the laptop at some point to blow things up.

You expect good animations from a AAA title though.

eh, I'm not too bothered by the animations and I'm baffled at the response this got

I mean I'm not touching this game with a ten foot pole because it's time consuming and P2P but it was obvious they were gonna make this a Star Wars WoW, which means it's got 2004-2006 era graphics so it appeals to even the casual folks who don't have monster pcs.

Heh, they could've made the game much better looking without cranking up the system requirements.

So long as there's a strong sense of atmosphere I don't really care either.

That said I have never been able to stand an MMO for longer than a week. Ever. So I'm just thankful my girlfriend will undoubtedly buy it should our laptop support it (and if not then eventually when we get a gaming rig) and I can just try to see if that has changed about me. Since, you know, it probably won't.

You should ! Graphics aren't an important part of a game but is still an indicative of the overall quality of the soft, when it comes to high-budget games anyway and TOR is the game that has the highest budget of any EA game ever, estimated at around 100 millions.

If graphics and animations suck we can't have faith in the overall quality of the game.

They pumped almost all of their money in voice acting it seems.

Sure you can.

Hence, I don't care.

It's difficult to put into words and admittedly more than a little silly when I try to explain it. Quite frankly, I... get overwhelmed by the feeling of carrot-waggling (or whatever they call it) -- the system of 'gotta level up so I can get new skills so I can level up so I can get new loot so I can level up so I can get new skills so I can level up so I can get new loot so I can...' somehow I just can't stand the thought of it. It's almost repulsive to me because I'd much rather explore a story.

And then we arrive at the most common counterpoint -- some MMOs have good stories. And that's absolutely true, I know it is. I've read up on FFXI's, for example. Surprisingly OK, that one. And this is BioWare so I shouldn't worry. And it's so story-focused so that's great. But then there's the fact that you wind up playing with hordes of other people, which isn't something I have anything against when I'm playing games with people in-person. But when it's online I just... very quickly stop caring. I dunno why.

And then there's the "find the right group" counterpoint. Again, a very solid one. My ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend are two terrific MMO players who like lore as much as me. I... still can't do it. Because I'm quite serious when I say that I spend so much time exploring and taking it easy in every game I play that I'll beat FFVII in like 120 hours. I just roam around, immerse myself, in basically every game I can do so with. So you can imagine that eventually my potential teammates in an MMO will get tired of me reading every last ounce of flavor text a few times while hanging out by some tree on Kashyyk. Because that's how I roll and it bothers the hell outta everyone else.

So if I did get this game, you'd see me level from 1 to 50 over the course of no less than a year for sure. I'd be chilling out, relaxing on Tatooine. Doing just about nothing. That's how I roll. I love atmosphere so much. But after a certain point everyone around me always goes "oh my god, hurry up, we have a boss to fight for cool loot" and leave me behind and I get bored with the game immediately after that.

>_> You asked.

It's a totally separate development team though. This is kind of like if someone refused to buy another FFT game should Matsuno for some reason go back to Square and re-assemble the whole band just because Toriyama's FFXIII was terrible.

Long story

Not the right topic for this but I think Guild Wars 2 would be right up your alley. The game rewards exploration and the way the game is built is that if you play with high level people your level will be raised temporarily, if you play with low level people your level will be reduced. That way anybody can play with anybody, you may be a tad disadvantaged by equipment but the combat is very active so you can make up for it by sheer skill.

The game also rewards exploration, the devs said that they hid stuff that are so hard to find that they don't expect anybody to find it before at least a year, events, items and stuff.

I think you'd love the dynamic event system, that makes your action truly affect the game. For instance if some mobs attack a village and you don't manage to defend it the village will be gone until you and other players manage to drive them of. What's cool about this system is that you don't need to group with other people, jump into the action and you'll be rewarded for it based on what you did. No kill-objective stealing in this game.

And the leveling curve is flat.

That does sound more appealing. To be honest, this is the first time I've bothered to read a single post about Guild Wars 2 because I've long since gotten rather jaded by the formula of the MMOs I've played.

I'll add it to the (very) short list of MMOs I can at very least recommend to my girlfriend (she loves the genre) and see about playing a bit through her copy at some point. Thanks.

How can you not fathom that it looks entertaining?

Do you literally not enjoy Star Wars at all?

I loved the movies. Even the new trilogy was at least partially entertaining. And as a huge sci-fi fan, the universe is definitely intriguing.

But that game just does not look fun.
