You should be able to tell when there is a certain level of comfort in the relationship that you're okay with sharing that weird s***.

If your fetishes are a bit extreme (like whips and chains), that is something that you probably search online for in like chains and whips (e.g.) chat rooms before you get into a relationship, or you tell your SO about before you get too far into your relationship.
