May start ramping back cards a wee tad, at least temporarily. Retention rate is starting to go down a bit and I'm getting a build up to the point where I'm spending 2 hours. That may be because I've been missing more than one day a week then going for the double up, so we'll see if it continues to be an issue with a few days in a row with only 24 hours between reps and no double batching.

Bump for now. And now I realize I'm doing an every other day situation again tomorrow. Bleh. This is not how I wanted to "ramp back!" Whatever I'll do better next week.

Random comment... I didn't need a mnemonic for exceed/go over, because I saw "summon" and "run" and all I could think of is Dormammu's excessive "I SUMMON THE POWER... RUN... RUN... RUN" from Marvel vs Capcom 3. Well now I just have to remember him using the move on Margaret CHOU and I'm good. (whoever the hell that is)

I used getter robo, terry pratchett and cats for far too many mnemonics!

Hmmm... alright, Tae Kim... let's see. Gonna actually look at the layout of the site tomorrow then set a goal, that makes sense. So first goal will be, look at Tae Kim site in detail tomorrow. Which will be done. But going to sleep now.

Anyway I looked them up. Goal will be to get through basic grammar by this weekend (I did some of it today), and essential grammar and special expressions by next weekend, and the rest the weekend after that... all the while reviewing the previous stuff, and maybe checking out renshuu in the meantime. Actually let's just say an hour every two days minimum to help cement that this will happen. I don't like "time based" goals but what can you do. And I guess I'll log "progress" on that in here too.
I'm not even sure how I should study them aside from just... going over them repeatedly. How inefficient. I guess I could make a Anki deck for them but that seems like it'll be more trouble than it's worth.
-- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
I intended to do some grammar tonight but the Anki decided to be cute and throw a double lesson at me because "???" Like I was just about done with 150 reviews and 20 new cards, and then all of a sudden I have 20 new cards and 80 reviews to go. I could've just stopped I guess, but that would be letting it win. Also I didn't do cards yesterday so it's not all bad.

You're messing with me! You're messing with me, aren't you!? You're making fun of me, aren't you!? Aren't you!? You definitely are! I'll murder you!
Yeah that didn't work out. I was busy most of the day and then I didn't really feel like doing it when I was done with things.
Dat Castlevania screwing everything up.
Anyway uhhh I think I need a more rigid guideline for this. Unfortunately I don't really know what to do. "Daily" is kinda more than I want to do given that the cards are regularly taking two hours these days. Weekendly scheduling isn't a good thing. I also don't much like time based goals I like goal based goals. So I dunno. How about you suggest a plan for tackling grammar stuff, newbie, since you seem to be so frustrated at my slacking off in that department! Or someone else who's reading can. READER INTERACTION TIME.
I think I'll be more likely to follow something you suggest than something I suggest here, is all I'm saying. <_<
-- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
If Castlevania is blocking stuff, commit to finishing cards/doing grammar before you start. You probably should aim to do grammar before cards as I think you're far enough in that you're not likely to give up on cards; obviously this is pending like a day or two in the future.
You should probably aim to only read and focus on one or two grammatical points per day. Just make sure you learn them well, because you're far more likely to screw up one or two specific points repeatedly rather than 10 points a little bit and devoting a lot of time to individual grammatical rules would be to your advantage.
Also I don't know if you're making a habit out of doing anki cards once every two days but that's probably why you're spending 2 hours on it <_<. I hope you're not doing anything else while going through the decks though (even music!); It like doubles your time and lowers your retention by a bunch.

Eh? You Serious? Easy Mode? How Disgusting! Only Elementary School Kids should play on Easy Mode.
I don't mind doing cards on their own and that's how I usually do them, though sometimes I'll have the TV or music on. I don't notice a huge decline in efficiency that way. But yeah I guess doing cards when I'm A. Tired, B. Missed a day many times lately has been causing the time taken to go up.
Anyway I'll try the "one Tae Kim a day" approach for now, and see how long I can stick with it. Just gonna start back at the beginning since I didn't do much anyway and I might've glossed over a bit more than I should've.

Though what I didn't know is apparently you're supposed to say boku or something instead of watashi if you're a real man and need the watashi around. Or some other manly "I" that I forget.
-- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
Oh also it's not one per day more like at least one per day.
Running/walking with the cards is fine (and in fact might promote retention!) but music seems to be bad.
I do mine on the bus so!
Also currently at 795 on kanjidamage.

And yeah I actually did start Tae Kim's thing. I slacked off with it and only did the minimal one section... though I did like, physically write out the answers to the first few questions in a couple of the exercises a few times to help really drive the conjugations into my head. And to be fair I had like 180 cards to do today since I missed a couple of days. I'll probably do more than one section tomorrow assuming it's not a lot more complicated. (And just for the record I did the Japanese stuff hours ago so I wasn't tired as hell doing it for once. Yay?)

Did the bare minimum on Tae Kim today, even though I knew everything that was on today's lesson except the ga/wa differentiation. (Strange that this was never brought up in the Japanese classes I took considering it seems to be a pretty basic thing. Or maybe it was and it just wasn't explained well and I forgot, I dunno)

Again did the bare minimum on Tae Kim, but that's okay because this lesson was kind of a lot to digest anyway. I think it'll be very helpful though as recognizing the format of adjectives was kind of a significant stopping point for me as there's no obvious particle to break the sentence up with them. It's like, you know, a mishmosh of hiragana and they run straight into the word they're describing. Did the examples for this one too just to help me remember.

200 cards today and taking a break during in the middle cause I don't wanna sit around for 2 hours doing cards. I checked out the verb stuff but I actually remembered that stuff. I may do another lesson before sleeping, or I may just do the verb practice exercises just to make sure I got em. Will update card counts before sleeping when I finish but don't wanna risk this purging.
-- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
I started doing it again, thing dumped like 80 more cards on me again-- I guess it reloads cards for the day around this time. Anyway whatever I'm just going to do them tomorrow when I wake up. Progress for now.
My phone's internet has been knocked out so my progress going through kanjidamage has been slowed.

Took a break yesterday. Haven't done Tae Kim yet. Going to do a mega session of it today or tomorrow and going to try to review/do all the beginner sections cause I've missed more days than I'd like.
Been busy, then slacking after busyness, so haven't gotten that big Tae Kim session I wanted in yet. I still did a little of it today, though. Just the normal one section, though. And I did do cards both days just forgot to update.
