I would imagine the same way America teaches slavery, that is to say, hours and hours of justifications on "this is why things happened to turn in a bad direction and no one who was reasonable was able to fix it" and then glossing over the more horrible aspects.

They tend to avoid it like America with Japanese containment camps. However when it is spoken about, it is in a very harsh way. Nazism is viewed way worse in all of Europe and especially Germany than in America.

This isn't really true. I've been to Germany plenty of times before, and there's still a fairly strong nationalist-socialism presence. IIRC, there's some minor party that basically represents the fringe views of the neo-Nazis, and it consistently gets in the low double digits in elections. Kind of like the Green Party, only with less Nader.

I've always heard it like this:

All of Europe, especially the French, fell before Hitler in one large sweep of pathetic. Stalin and all the evil communists signed a non-aggression pact so they were out too. Britain, the only European country worth discussing, fought valiantly against every Nazi move but were ultimately not enough to stop them. Then Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, and America the sleeping giant of awesome woke up to crush Japan and Germany simultaneously (and almost singlehandedly, with some Brits at our side). Russia got into the war at the last second or something to reap the benefits of our excellence.

Since I'm in an opinionated mood tonight, let me throw this out there: as much fun as it is to bash on America, there's really no question as to how much ass we kicked during WWII. Answer? All of the ass, with token amounts to stalwart European nations. That's not to say that there aren't parts of American military history worth criticizing- lol mid-20th century CIA, lol Korea, lol Vietnam- but WWII's a safe bet for Uncle Sam.

The thing is, we weren't necessary to defeating Germany. The USSR would have done it without us (Though England may have fallen before that occured)

Germany / Russia would've been interesting had the US not stepped in, but yeah, Russia'd be the favorite by at least a field goal. America's main contribution was propping up Western Europe.

russia wouldn't have lost but they couldn't have conquered europe

it would have been a stalemate until germany pulled out, and who knows if that ever would have happened

Neville Chamberlain gets a bad rap. He knew how crazy Hitler was at Munich, but he also knew that the UK wasn't strong and that they needed more time to build up their forces, which is what appeasement gave them. It wasn't something that went on indefinitely. I got this from a Cracked article, so who knows how mainstream this viewpoint is. Makes sense to me though.

Germany probably would have won if Hitler didn't feel the need to suicide half his troops versus the Russian winter. Well, maybe. He still would have had the problem of the war dragging on a little too long and his tanks running out of gas (and that's where America helped out a lot, since he needed to get the war over with, but that opened yet another kettle of worms)
