From what I've seen Catherine has been better received. I'm guessing neither is amazing.

I hear LA Noire was a good game with a bad open world.

Catherine is a game with great puzzles and that's about it.

Both are well-liked, but LA Noire is beloved by tons of people.

Catherine is great, but it's not going to have a long life in gamers' memories because it's not an RPG it's a puzzle game and doesn't offer a lot of replayability despite the 8 endings available.

If you want a deep, involving story with satisfying and challenging gameplay Catherine is better. If you just want to solve crimes in 50's LA than LA Noire is better.

involving story
Catherine

Don't lie to the man.

A deep story and one that's f***ing worth every second, yes, but it's less involving than a choose your own adventure

with one option.

If you want to get t-boned while driving through green lights, LA Noire has the leg up in that department too.

I think he just meant something like "engaging" in that it keeps your interest, as opposed to the literal definition of "involving you".
