John's a great main character. The best thing about him is that he has good synergy in his conversations with just about everybody, TG, CG, and AG the most of all. The fact that he's this really nice guy but is kind of dumb and clueless just makes him likeable and funny, IMO.

I pretty much take homestuck's soundtracks for granted by this point, but as a new reader I certainly wasn't used to comics doing that sort of thing. It very much enhances the experience.
I actually went through the vast majority of the comic without sound (I didn't have a choice). I should really go back and watch the various big moments with the sound on.

Go hit up JN: Rise (paraphrasing, you probably know what I'm talking about), and EOA4. The sound there is literally the best thing that has happened in any webcomic, ever.

Why would you? If you don't like the current direction and finished it it's changing again with the next update. If you're not finished...well, you're in for a wild ride.
