Played a little bit. I must sleep, but first I must make a simple comment:
Irvine is Zelos with a cowboy hat. Dude hasn't done anything yet but I feel it in my bones that he'll betray the party soon.

...Watch me be wrong about that!

But yeah, dude only had like 3 lines so far so I have no idea what to expect from him. It's just...HE GIVES THAT VIBE.

Oh first thing I did was equip him with 100 water spells so that his attack went up. HAH. SUCK IT GAME.

In the movie remake for Charlie's Angels there's a typical "boys will be boys"-style scene in which two kids are mashing the f*** out of every button on their controllers like they're beating the s*** out of eachother hardcore, you know, fighting game, crazy stuff, real talk.

...Except the screen clearly indicates they're playing Final Fantasy VIII.

Fun FF8 memories:

-Using the Card command to avoid leveling up at all costs
-Whenever an NPC would try to talk to me, I'd just be thinking "I don't give a ****, do you want to play cards?"
-Headmaster Cid cheats at cards like no other
-Playing as temporary party members until the game timer maxed out and the clock started over in red because leveling characters = bad, but leveling GFs = good (for certain definitions of "fun")
-Singing Soul Asylum every time I summoned Doomtrain
-Farming Limit Breaks, especially Zell's where the two most basic moves link to each other and can just be chained endlessly until you drop your combo
-Giving up near the end after all that, because those ****ing Malboros were still a ***** to deal with

Should play again one day, used to play a fair bit, probably been about three years now since I played right through the game.

Interested to see if your opinions of the characters change. I'm not a huge fan of Irvine, mostly as I hate having to replenish his ammo all the time.

About the only FF8 I get involved with now is the hurt and heal topic that has been going for a few years on the FF8 social board here. Go Cerberus! (you will find out about this chatacter in disc 2, so won't say any more.) Got it to the final three anyway, looks like Irvine will win it all though.

Pulse is the ultimate limit break for Irvine I think.

Mad expensive though.

Pulse isn't really worth it because it's so hard to come by and it fires so slowly.

Alright, so Squall and co met up with the new party member, Irvine. He did some funny things I can't remember because I was sleepy as hell when I was playing the game last time, so let's just assume he's cool and quirky. Now, I don't remember exactly what happened last time but I'm inside a mansion now, apparently waiting for someone.

Irvine has his feet up on a desk because he's Irvine. Zell is walking up and down like a caged tiger because I believe he is in fact a caged tiger trapped inside the body of a human. It would explain the stripes on his face. Or am I thinking of some obscure rpg? Anyway, Rinoa says that he always makes them wait.

Now, I don't have a clue who he is, but if he always makes people wait, then he's clearly a rude bastard and more clearly I empathize with him. Rinoa mentions how the mansion they are in is her house, which means she is rich.

SQUALL, THIS IS THE HINT YOU NEEDED. HIT IT.

This dude comes out of the door as soon as Rinoa exits and he has a theme song, so he must be some huge f****** deal. Zell is like "dude you are a military leader and she's anti-military, haha that's bad." Zell is so great.

Squall walks up to him, somewhat carelessly, looks out the window and explains how things are going to be in a way only he can.

"Don't mind if I kidnap your daughter after this and I help her lead a revolution against you, okay bro?"

Rinoa's father raised an eyebrow. "What if I mind?"

Squall was surprised. Why would he have a problem with that? He clearly has a hidden agenda beside the fact of not liking the fact Squall wants to help his daughter fight a war against him.

Meanwhile, Irvine is still resting his feet on that desk. WOAH. He jumped...from the chair to...I need to try that. I just need to. Hang on, I'll be right back.

That was indeed physically possible, but it's more like sliding on top of the desk than jumping it. Still, I can't complain about that scene! Also it was cool.

One team will be the gateaway team and the other will be the sniper team. General Ace Venture(Careaway=Carey=Ace Ventura) explains the plan multiple times, then goes on to explain that once everything is done then...BANG.

I love how he is this serious dude talking about an assassination but he talks about a sound effect. It's great.

I really want to know whether Squall meant they don't usually get into trouble or that they always get into trouble but he can't tell them what to do because they are not his daughter. I want to know so badly because one of them implies that Squall thinks the dude is thinking of him as a daughter. Which I find hilarious for some reason.

Okay I don't think I mentioned before, but I really hate the bus system. I'M ALWAYS MISSING THE BUS OR GETTING OFF AT THE WRONG STOP. I should probably take this moment to say that this complaint doesn't just apply to the game, it applies to all buses, real or not.

I laughed so hard at that. Squall says that the gate team will be everyone but him and Irvine. Zell is f****** stoked. Man Squall you gotta learn to be more a bro. Zell was stoked. Why wouldn't you give him the title? Yeah, he's crazy, but bros before hoes man.

I thought the game froze for a second until I realized I was controlling the instructor. Then I went "oooooooh." Rinoa headbutts Quillis. Rinoa found an Odine Bangle. Quillis proceeds to be a b**** about it.

Meanwhile, the awesome soundtrack starts to play and Squall and Irvine start to have a conversation that happens every time you meet a new bro. It's when you try to make him respect you as the alpha of the group so that he becomes your wingman instead of the other way around. I suspect this process might take a while.

"I'm going to prepare to lead on the assault on the sorceress."
"Oh it won't be needed, I'll finish her off."

Squall goes on thinking about how there's no good or bad side. That's dangerous thinking dude. What if your best friend hits on your sister? That's totally bad. No way around that.
