Good article. I haven't actually played LA Noire but the article makes some good arguments if even a fraction of what it cites about the game is true. Also, I have played a little GTA3, and if that's indicative of Rockstar's work in integrating female characters into their games in meaningful roles, that's not a good sign for them. Not that they're alone in this but great show for IGN to bring attention to this issue.

Seriously IGN? It's a f***ing period piece. I'd rather they be realistic than try to make everyone except the villains and NPCs super progressive. I haven't actually played the game, though, so for all I know these types are in there.

Also the biggest criticism of Noire should not be about it being sexist, but rather about the extremely linear gameplay that is disguised behind choices that don't actually change anything and an "open" world
Answer: Yes, yes the characters do express sexist views. But most who do are also portrayed as bufoons, with a couple exceptions, mostly based around adulterous women so who cares?
And hey it does integrate women wherever possible. The dispatcher couldve been a dude but wasnt, for instance. It is a period piece and I do feel it actually does a decent job of making the backward views the characters hold look backward so its not like its being malicious.
this reminds me of when someone was mad about Portal 2 calling the main character a fatty throughout. the context is important and people writing the complaint articles usually ignore it.
