$100 with a worthwhile game to go along with it. $50 without one.

Yeah, I won't be getting it on launch.

Less than $150 dollars, at least two games at launch that I can see myself playing for a long time.

That would still probably be to expensive, but I might consider it at that point.

also even if nintendo did all of these things and turned back the clock on their DS/wii metamorphosis, I still wouldn't get the U on launch day because buying launch consoles is usually a terrible idea, especially now that all systems are reliant on proprietary optical drives. launch PS2's had mass DRE's, launch 360's had RRoD's and DRE's, the wii STILL has a bad optical drive...you want to wait for the 2-3 year down the line console redesign before buying, launch consoles are too error prone. if they go to a digital distribution system where you don't need discs then that would go a long way towards making me more likely to buy launch consoles again

* $300 or less launch price.
* A major first-party game at launch -- Mario platformer, Metroid.
* A coherent, approachable online service -- usernames, no friend codes; friend lists; a fully realized online store from the start; in-game chatting.
* A six-month launch window support plan that includes more than one or two notable games, first- or third-party.
* Tangible third-party support that isn't merely ports of already released games.
* A storage solution that consists of a harddrive that is a minimum of 150GB in size.
* A look at future Nintendo games in development for the system.

That would be a nice start.

HM/ZFS bringing the reasonable.

they need to scrap the tablet controller and replace it with something closer to the gamecube or 360 controller for me to even consider it. aside from that, they need to actually release their new IPs in america and prove that they can actually get continuous third party support. overall they need to move away from the ultra conservative methodology that has defined them and start taking some damn pride in their work. like everyone is making a big deal about SS finally having orchestrated music but they're still using general MIDI for non-orchestral instruments, meanwhile you have sony hiring musicians for SotC when that game was a follow up to a cult game that didn't sell crap, it just puts nintendo in a bad light when you see sony and microsoft going out of their way to provide the best product possible while nintendo cuts every corner and is too risk averse to even bother localizing games they consider cult(lol everyone importing xenoblade)

also its architecture should be similar to a PC/360, the easier games are to develop/port for multiple systems the better, enough of this crap where every system has to be dramatically different massively raising development costs(which get passed on to us, lol $60 games), delaying games, and making backwards compatibility needlessly difficult. there's no reason a wii U shouldn't be able to play gamecube games when I can play 2000-2005 PC games on a modern PC that is more powerful than the U will be, this is a product of them constantly changing their architecture for no good reason(as well as optical drives but as I state in the next post, digital distribution yo, consoles need to catch up to the PC on this)

retro is nintendo's best development team, I love DKC and all but having them rehash old franchises is a gross misuse of their talent, retro should be making a new IP

Oh yeah, definitely needs a better launch library than 3DS had. I was so pissed off when I saw that they'd dropped the price for the 3DS drastically already when there still isn't a single game out yet that I found to be worth buying. Could've saved lots of money if I wasn't so impatient. (Well, okay, actually I broke my DS about a week before the 3DS launched, so I needed a new portable anyway. Not "broke" as in "rendered it completely unplayable", though--it's just extremely wobbly and feels as though the top screen could fall off at any time.)

If nintendo tossed in something like a free yearly subscription to like Netflix or something with a reasonable console cost.

Well, all signs point to them making another DKC game. DKCR was hugely successful with fans and critics alike, and is the second best selling Donkey Kong game of all-time(behind the crazy-ass 8 million copies DKC1 somehow sold). I hear the president of Retro Studios stepped down because he didn't want to make another DKC game...so that's probably what they're doing now.

Not I'm worried too much. The talent turnover at Retro Studios has been happening since the original Metroid Prime, and they still find a way to release popular video games anyway. Although I would like to see some cool new thing from Retro one of these days

ya know, after DKCR2 and 3
