Semi-surprise Mega Man X Collection playthrough topic.
Well kinda. I already beat MMX a couple of days ago. Third time for that one! Love it so much.
Working on MMX2 right now. Two Mavericks "beated" -- Wire Sponge and, yes, Overdrive Ostrich.
Wire Sponge is hilarious man, what the hell was up with that thing? What the hell was up it for serious, man? It was launching phallic objects all over the place and when it went into low health it started getting angry and red. Man, I fought a f***ing penis in this game, what the hell is up with Capcom?
Overdrive Ostrich was an annoying bird that should have been called "Underperforming Dodo" because I wrecked its face as soon as I realized I just had to jump over it when it was running down the hill.
On to Wheel Gator.

Well I beat X2 tonight. Raced to the finish line (by my reckoning; I'm pretty slow with games because I like to take as much time as possible to enjoy 'em) and got whooped a couple of times by Virus Sigma. Sigmarine on the other hand wasn't so bad apart from his disappearing and reappearing gimmick.
The nice thing about Virus Sigma (scratch that: the reason I beat Virus Sigma) is that he let his flunkies keep giving me health. Awfully nice of him.
You know who was a b**** and a half though? Serges in the second fight. Holy god, what was that all about? Violen and Agile weren't too bad either time and Serges the first time was tough but far from impossible. That tank though, dear god, I died like ten times.

MMX2 has some of the series' nastiest bosses in its final dungeon (especially Violen and the final). And yeah, Virus Sigma dropping health helps keep him sane, since his own health is so nutty - the fight's a bit of a gauntlet. It's the only boss in the series I've never beaten at minimum power (aside from X5-7 which I don't especially like or haven't played), something I should probably try to tackle one day.
I assume you missed out on the Zero fight due to beating the X Hunters? Bit of a shame because I really like the Zero fight (and it's quite tough until you get a good rhythm for it, at which point it becomes modestly easy), but on the plus side it makes dying to Sigma set you back less.
Eh, I didn't like X3 as much. Not sure what it was, but something felt off about it.
I kinda feel the same way, although I think I know why it is - the weapons are mostly quite poor, and the bosses just... don't feel as craftily designed as in other games. Some crazy number of bosses in MMX3 involve charging at you, then you jumping up a wall and dashjumping over 'em (I can think of at least four). I also think the game is a bit on the easy side for an MMX; I actually had less trouble defeating it buster-only with no upgrades than I did beating some MMX games on normal playthroughs.

All legitimate criticisms. For my money, the strengths of X3 lie in its huge stages, high number of collectible items, and playable Zero. Also a killer soundtrack, though apparently it's love-or-hate.

Yeah, I can respect that. It's just that most of those things aren't really things I care about. (Don't enjoy MMX collectathoning, and while the stages are big they're quite bland and boring.)

OK, what is the deal with the back-and-forth on X3 here? Not the quality of the game; that's always going to be argued for anything ever. But there seem to be two opinions on its difficulty and they're wildly varied. In this very topic I've watched someone call it too easy and someone admire it for being harder than most others.
All the same I'm watching this one-or-the-other unfold everywhere on the internet. I don't get it!
By the way, Blazing Buffalo got ranch'd and Neon Tiger found out what happens when you double-back predictably against a wall straight into a charged X-Buster.

Also, someone ruined for me that I should avoid the pink upgrade capsules and search for a Golden Armor instead as it negates the one-at-a-time penalties of the other four. But uh, this sounds like something that's good to know so I ain't mad.

I think it's possible that it depends on how people play games. MMX3 bosses tend to do a lot of damage, but they tend to be very easy to dodge. If you're the type of person who really doesn't want to learn how to fight things properly (just collect all the upgrades and try to brute force everything), you'll probably find MMX3 a bit harder. If you focus more on learning boss patterns, or find it more intuitive to do so, or whatever, you'll find it easier.
Or at least that's the best theory I could come up with on short notice. I find the idea of finding MMX3 hard kinda alien myself.

Yeah, there's no question that X3 is the most challenging of the original trilogy. Not a hard game compared to, say, the Zero series, but then that can be said of the first two games to an even greater extent.

Well, there's basically no possible way to know about it without being told anyway, so yeah.

There's always hope for better things in life. But you can't let anything, friend, lover, God himself, be your hope. You have to be your own hope.
I blasted that Hornet and crushed the stupid Crawfish. What's up with having a catfish, crawfish and seahorse in the same game, anyway? Is that like... because Doppler is weather-related and oceans are water-related and water is weather-related? I doubt Capcom ever thinks that much though...
