got it during the steam sale a while ago.
sitting here with a couple dozen games to play through right now deciding what mix I wanna do. figured i should try one of the games i got from steam, and in more of an rpg mood than a... whatever Darksiders counts as.

so yeah, who's played, what should i expect, etc. an initial look at the skills makes me think i wanna be a gadget freak who knows kung fu and uses pistols.

I've played it. I stopped at the last area I think. I got fed up with how badly the game treats you when you want to stealth through the levels.

i'm perfectly fine with not being stealthy all the time; i do play that style a lot because it's just easier to wait things out, get a good shot in and continue than run 'n gun constantly, but either tends to work out for me if the game's fine with both.

This game is great. I went run and gun, melee+shotguns and it was a blast.

...okay, so summarizing from all of that, any playstyle seems to be fine.

I really enjoyed Alpha Protocol. I focused a lot on pistol skills and stealth, I love that skill that lets you target up to five or six people with time frozen and shoot 'em all in the face at the same time.

Also interestingly, the new Deus Ex game reminds me a lot of Alpha Protocol's systems in some ways, only more polished.

yeah, when i got it i basically browsed around for a bit and basically came to the conclusion "Oh, so this is Deus Ex 2. Fantastic."

and that skill of time freezing is something that Splinter Cell Convictions had too. not sure who took it from who or if both had the same idea from somebody else, but sounds awesome at least.

still really early in the game, and while pistols seem fine (as per the usual in these games, which i like) i am totally digging more the ability to kung fu people's asses. just fun to run up to a guy and melee. >_>

I forgot how hacking worked, but couldn't you buy the intel and not have to hack?

Buying Intel is important as are side objectives. They usually make later missions easier. There are also a lot of important perks that make Mike godlike that are gained through repeated actions like X stealth kills. Also, don't underestimate gadgets. EMP grenades are a lifesaver later on.

Hacking Is the word game. I think the gadget skill has things to make it easier. I don't remember if EMP grenades unlock computers or just locks.

Some advice for hacking there. I can't attest to how helpful it is (I played on console), but it might help.

Quite a good game. Shame it got killed by reviewers, it deserved better.

well good, as a pistol whippin' kung fu gadget man i already had a couple points in Sabotage in the first place. i figured kung fu + pistols + 'nades or whatever else i get make for a nice mix that rounds everything out. might add some stealth to that mix but really, if i can whup you i'll gladly do so! one archtype i always try to take on is the computer/tech heavy guy as those almost always get the most perks to 'em. can't think of a single rpg where going in as the soldier was the best idea - utility always gets the best stuff.
